The first ocean drilling vessel in China has entered the debugging and interior installation stage, with the "Dream" anchored to explore the deep sea crust

At the the Pearl River Estuary, Nansha District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, a huge ship, half white at the top and half orange at the bottom, stood tall with its drilling rig, and the whole ship stood out in the clear sky. This is the first ocean drilling ship "Dream" independently designed and built by China. This domestically largest scientific research vessel successfully completed its trial voyage at the end of last year and has now entered the debugging and interior installation stage. It is expected to be fully completed within this year. Climbing onto the "Dream" ship and entering the laboratory interior decoration site, blocks of silver shimmering permalloy were being laid on the walls. He Qingyin, the engineering and technical director of the business group laboratory of the "Dream" ship supervision team, is busy using a magnetometer to carefully inspect the shielding layer. More than 3000 pieces of PoMo alloy with a total area of 1200 square meters, equivalent to the size of three basketball courts, He Qingyin needs to ensure that the gap between the PoMo alloy plates does not exceed 1 millimeter, and each piece of PoMo alloy plate must fully adhere to the wall to avoid affecting the magnetic shielding effect. "Installing a magnetic shielding chamber is crucial. After obtaining samples from ocean drilling, magnetic experiments need to be conducted in a laboratory environment that shields against magnetic interference, in order to determine the age of geological and mineral reservoirs, explore geodynamics and geological evolution processes." He Qingyin introduced that "the laboratory has innovatively used a nationally produced and internationally leading PoMo alloy shielding layer, with a shielding rate of 99.8% for external magnetic signals, which can ensure a scientific research and experimental environment." As the world's largest offshore mobile laboratory, the "Dream" ship's onboard laboratory is equipped with over 150 sets of precision experimental instruments. Currently, the installation of twelve systems, including water, electricity, gas, and wind, has been completed, and the installation of experimental instruments is about to begin. "Drilling is the most important capability of the 'Dream' spacecraft," said Zhou Chang, the main person in charge of the 'Dream' spacecraft command center of the China Geological Survey. "The purpose of drilling is to drill the rock cores inside the Earth, obtain the geological information contained therein, and then unravel the mysteries of the deep Earth." In the field of drilling science, there is a saying: "The difficulty of drilling at a depth of 10000 meters is comparable to landing on the moon." With the support of technological innovation and equipment integration, the 'Dream' spacecraft has the ability to drill at a depth of 11000 meters in the sea. ". "This ship is dedicated to achieving the goal of penetrating the crust and entering the mantle layer, which is why it is named the 'Dream'," Zhou Chang said. "The pressure of 11000 meters poses a challenge to equipment, water, electricity, fluids, and materials." Yin Xianfeng, the leader of the "Dream" supervision team, introduced that the entire ship involves 303 main equipment items, 8300 production drawings, and over 10000 construction processes. More than 150 scientific research units participated in the construction, breaking through more than 10 key technologies. Walking on the ship, innovation is overwhelming. Relying on the independently developed shipborne intelligent rock core storage and transportation system, the rock core can be automatically transported and stored on board, just like "shrimp are immediately placed in the freezer after being picked up from the sea", ensuring the freshness of the samples; By applying energy storage technology and closed-loop power grid, with a full load of 180 crew members, it can work continuously at sea for 120 days and have a range of 15000 nautical miles; The 1.2 million meter cable laying fully covers information technology, achieving intelligent collaboration between ships and shore. Not far from the construction site of the ship, drilling is carried out in conjunction with the "Dream" ship
