Cultural Analysis: A Bi-directional Chinese Tour

2023-12-13

Recently, the World Chinese Language Conference with the theme of "Chinese Serving the World, Open Leading the Future" was held in Beijing. The conference attracted more than 2000 representatives from over 160 countries and regions, making it an unprecedented event. The change in name from the previous "International Chinese Education Conference" to the current "World Chinese Conference" indicates that the application scope and international influence of Chinese are increasingly expanding. Going global and serving the world is a new trend and task in the development of Chinese internationalization in the new stage. Chinese is a public language and cultural product provided by China to the world. It is a common demand and expectation for Chinese to go global and serve the world. The globalization of Chinese language helps to promote Chinese culture to better reach the world, enhance China's international status and influence, which is an "internal perspective" starting from China. Serving the world in Chinese is beneficial for the world to understand China, understand China, and shape an open, inclusive, and diverse world civilization landscape. To gain a deeper understanding of China, it is necessary to use language as the foundation and Chinese as the medium. Chinese itself contains rich traditional elements and cultural connotations, recording the historical roots of Chinese civilization. Chinese is a bridge for people all over the world to enhance their understanding of China's national conditions, close their emotional distance with China, and understand Chinese path to modernization. Chinese is going global, and international Chinese education will provide strong support. According to statistics, more than 190 countries and regions around the world are currently implementing Chinese language teaching programs, with 85 countries incorporating Chinese into their national education systems. There are over 80000 schools and training institutions offering Chinese language courses, and over 30 million people are learning Chinese overseas. The widespread and diverse demand for Chinese language learning worldwide has pushed international Chinese education towards a new stage of high innovation, high energy, and high-quality development. Various Chinese teaching institutions, media, and learning platforms both domestically and internationally support and cooperate with each other, creating a new pattern of resonance in international Chinese education. Chinese needs to fly alongside technology to go global. The deep integration of new technologies such as virtual reality, metaverse, and artificial intelligence with Chinese language has embedded technological cores in Chinese language teaching, products, and services, thereby enhancing the personalization, autonomy, and intelligence of Chinese language learning and usage. For example, technologies and products such as Chinese speech recognition, virtual reality Chinese classrooms, and Chinese digital human anchors allow Chinese to be infused with technological wings and spread at a faster speed. Similarly, Chinese language also builds a communication bridge for Chinese technology to go global, helping Chinese technology to take root and promote its application abroad. The organic combination and two-way empowerment of Chinese language and technology enable China's hard technology and soft culture to complement each other. In addition, with the support of new technologies and media, the international dissemination of Chinese has also transformed into a two-way interactive and multi-dimensional isomorphic network model. For example, new models such as the Chinese Alliance Learning Platform, Chinese Smart Classroom, and short videos have mutually promoted and collaborated to create a multi-dimensional network that promotes Chinese to go global. Chinese needs to go global and take the path of localization development. Cultivating a large number of excellent local Chinese teachers, young sinologists, and Chinese media professionals is the key to the endogenous development of Chinese international communication. On the one hand, it can better integrate Chinese teaching into local education and take root, and on the other hand, it can provide sustainable career development opportunities for local Chinese workers
