2024-05-01

The Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HA) held a press conference on the 30th to announce the launch of the "Greater Bay Area Advanced Traditional Chinese Medicine Inpatient Clinical Training Program" in April, which is the first TCM inpatient clinical training program in Hong Kong. The Medical Authority expects to send 20 traditional Chinese medicine practitioners to participate in the plan in the first year. It is reported that the launch of this plan is to cooperate with the "Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Traditional Chinese Medicine Highland Construction Plan (2020-2025)", create a highland of traditional Chinese medicine talents, deepen professional exchanges between traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in the two regions, and undertake the positive response of the "Greater Bay Area Traditional Chinese Medicine Visiting Scholar Plan". Huang Qiaoyun, General Administrative Manager (Traditional Chinese Medicine) of the Medical Management Bureau, introduced that the training program will last for 24 months. The Hong Kong traditional Chinese medicine practitioners participating in the program have obtained practicing qualifications in mainland China and joined the clinical team of the Greater Bay Area Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital to directly participate in inpatient clinical work. They participate in the entire process of admission, ward rounds, patient diagnosis and treatment, prescription writing, and medical record writing. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners will also communicate and cooperate with medical teams from different departments to gain a more comprehensive understanding and mastery of the clinical operation arrangements of traditional Chinese medicine hospitals. The traditional Chinese medicine practitioners participating in this training have 8 years or more of clinical experience, have been students of the "Greater Bay Area Chinese Medicine Visiting Scholar Program", and have participated in Hong Kong Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Collaborative Services. Huang Qiaoyun stated that this training program will broaden the horizons of local traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, enhance their clinical expertise, and in the long run, help establish a talent pool for Chinese and Western medicine collaboration in Hong Kong, further enhancing the level of Chinese and Western medicine collaboration services in Hong Kong. In the first stage, the Medical Management Bureau dispatched five traditional Chinese medicine practitioners to participate. Huang Qiaoyun described them as "elites among the elites". They participated in training on stroke treatment and were assigned to work in neurology and acupuncture departments respectively. Huang Dunqi, a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who participated in the plan, said that unlike previous learning and training programs, he will participate in ward rounds, case discussions, etc. This time, he has gained a deeper understanding and mastery of various traditional Chinese medicine therapies and modern medical knowledge. He hopes to bring the learned experience back to Hong Kong, share it with colleagues, and also provide better diagnosis and treatment services for patients. Another traditional Chinese medicine practitioner who participated in the plan, Zhou Yingxin, mainly works in acupuncture and prescribing medicine in Hong Kong. In addition, she also participates in duty and bed management (i.e. participates in the entire process of patients from admission to discharge) in mainland China. She participates in ward rounds every day, understands the situation of the ward and the recovery of patients after surgery. Zhou Yingxin admits to learning through challenges. (Lai Xin She)
