To "survive", it is even more important to "come alive" (on-site comments, cultural landmarks, inheritance and development)

Strengthening the protection, inheritance, and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture, we must not only inherit it in material form, but also in our hearts. From a high altitude, the Pingjiang Historical and Cultural District, located in the northeast corner of the ancient city of Suzhou, Jiangsu, presents a dual chessboard pattern of "water land parallel, river street adjacent". The Jiangnan style of "small bridges and flowing water, pink walls and Dai tiles" is densely embroidered on the ancient city. Entering the streets and alleys, the sound of silk and bamboo, and the music of Pingtan can be heard from time to time. In the courtyard beside the bluestone road, fragrant pine bonsai and bamboo complement each other, creating a stark contrast between the tranquility of the courtyard and the bustling commercial street outside. Looking at this family by the river, it is true that the advantage of Wuzhong is Suzhou. A Suzhou city, half of which is a Jiangnan poem. The historical and cultural memory of the city can be preserved. To inherit and utilize this precious wealth well, people are the key factor and also an important force. Previously, the Pingjiang Historical and Cultural District faced many practical problems such as improving the living environment and protecting historical relics. What should we do? Only by focusing on people and benefiting them can we activate the endogenous driving force of development. Protecting historical and cultural neighborhoods and improving the living environment of residents is not a two choice multiple-choice question, but a must answer question that requires both hands. In recent years, based on the Pingjiang Road landscape protection and environmental improvement project, Gusu District has successively carried out renovations and upgrades in areas such as residential structures, family toilets, ancient wells, and overhead power lines. Nowadays, old houses are comfortable to live in, and more people consider the ancient city as a family and culture as a part of their lives. Residents who enjoy the achievements of development lament: "It's so lucky to enjoy the beauty of the Moon Bridge Flower Garden and the convenience of modern life!" Improving the living environment of historical and cultural blocks has protected things, retained people, and also nurtured the soul of culture. Entering Niujia Lane, Jiang Chengbo, an elderly man in his 90s, runs a bookstore that collects and sells ancient books. This store has a history of over a hundred years, reflecting Suzhou's tradition of valuing culture and education. Time leaves traces, culture leaves fragrance. In a sense, local residents are the main body of cultural production and dissemination, with distinct regional characteristics in their customs, language, and other aspects. Retaining people, making the ancient city not only "survive" but also "live", integrating into contemporary life, can better cultivate the soft power of urban culture and showcase cultural heritage. Historical and cultural blocks are tangible, but the infiltration and influence of culture are intangible. Strolling along Pingjiang Road, you can see intangible cultural heritage projects such as Suzhou embroidery, Song brocade, Kesi, Suzhou cuisine, and fan making techniques everywhere. Sometimes, you can also encounter relevant inheritors patiently explaining craft techniques. When people choose a Su fan with great interest and try on a few stitches of Su embroidery, cultural heritage becomes "alive" and vivid. In this cultural exchange, both the locals who protect the old city and the outsiders who visit the old city naturally become inheritors and disseminators of traditional culture, and also make traditional culture
