Turning on high-temperature mode again - why has the north been hotter than the south these days

2023-07-03

Recently, many parts of northern China have experienced a fierce high-temperature weather process. With the resurgence of the high-pressure ridge, a new round of high-temperature mode will begin in the north, which will continue for several days. How did the continuous high temperature weather in the north come about? Why is the north now hotter than the south? How long will this hot weather continue? The reporter interviewed relevant experts on this matter. To investigate the reasons, Zhang Fanghua, the chief forecaster of the Central Meteorological Observatory, analyzed four points: firstly, North China, Huanghuai and other regions are controlled by strong warm air masses, which have had a longer impact time; Secondly, under the control of high-pressure ridges, the sky is clear with few clouds, which is conducive to the warming of solar radiation; Thirdly, it is currently around the summer solstice solar term, with long daylight hours. Prolonged sunlight is beneficial for temperature rise and the occurrence and maintenance of high temperatures; Fourthly, in North China, Huanghuai and other regions, dry weather and low air humidity are conducive to temperature rise. Faced with the continuous high temperatures in the north, netizens have expressed their intention to go to the south for summer vacation. Zhang Fanghua said that from late June to early July in previous years, the average value of the highest temperature in North China, Huang Huai and other places was basically the same as that in the south, but from the maximum value of the highest temperature, the north was higher than the south. The main reason is that the south is in the Meiyu period at this time. On the one hand, there is more rainfall, and the Horse latitudes has not yet controlled this area, so the maximum value of the highest temperature in many places in the south is not very high; On the other hand, the northern region is now controlled by the continental high-pressure ridge, with strong radiation and dry air, making it prone to extreme high temperature weather. "There are obvious regional differences in the period of high temperature concentration across China. For North China, high temperature weather is more likely to occur from June to early July before the rainy season, and high temperatures for several consecutive days are also common in June. This period is mainly characterized by dry heat high temperature, which is characterized by high temperature and low humidity." Gao Hui, chief forecaster of the National Climate Center, said that in late July, with the northward jump of the Horse latitudes and the summer monsoon moving northward, With the increase of water vapor transport and atmospheric humidity in the north, cloud cover will also increase, making it prone to muggy weather. However, it should be noted that the Apparent temperature of the human body is different from the temperature, and the damp heat type high temperature is also affected by humidity, which tends to increase the Apparent temperature of the human body. Gao Hui stated that in the context of global warming, the frequency of extreme high temperatures will rapidly increase in both southern and northern China. According to the prediction of the National Climate Center, the temperature in North China and Huanghuai and other areas is relatively high this summer, accompanied by an increase in the number of high-temperature days. Therefore, there is a high probability that the northern region will be hotter than usual this summer. In this case, it is also possible for some observation stations to break historical extremes. A new round of high temperatures in the north, the Beijing Tianjin Hebei Shandong Henan area is still the core area, and local temperatures may still exceed the extreme. Especially in Beijing, Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Jinan, and Zhengzhou, the total number of high-temperature days is expected to reach 5-7 days. Not only will the high temperature last for a long time and have a high intensity during the day, but the lowest temperature will also significantly increase. Around the end of June, the minimum temperature in Tianjin, Shijiazhuang, Jinan, Zhengzhou and other parts of the North China Plain will reach about 30 ℃, and the sultry summer night is coming. Experts remind that continuous high temperatures will increase the risk of heatstroke or heat stroke during outdoor activities, and heatstroke prevention and cooling measures need to be taken; The demand for energy is increasing, and it is recommended that relevant departments ensure the supply of water, electricity, and other resources;
