Protecting the healthy growth of minors is a shared responsibility of the entire society, and the news media is also duty-bound. In recent years, news media have played a positive role in promoting the concept and knowledge of protecting minors, and supervising violations of their legitimate rights and interests. However, it cannot be denied that there are also some issues of misconduct, such as excessive disclosure of details and information that are not suitable for public disclosure; Some news may distort or deliberately exaggerate the plot, and so on. The non-standard reporting by the media not only infringes on the legitimate rights and interests of minors, causing adverse communication consequences, but also may cause irreparable harm to the physical and mental health of minors. The newly revised Law on the Protection of Minors, implemented on June 1, 2021, specifically clarifies multiple legal obligations of news media in the social protection section. This not only puts forward new and higher requirements for news media, but also further highlights the important role of news media in the protection of minors. How to effectively fulfill the legal responsibility of protecting minors and create a good public opinion environment for children is worth serious consideration and exploration by media workers. The author analyzes this from three dimensions. Dimension 1: Firmly establishing a rule of law mindset. Currently, the phenomenon of some news reports deviating from norms is closely related to the weak legal awareness and disregard for legal regulations of some media professionals. In fact, many laws and regulations in China have made a series of regulations on the news media and the contents and methods of their reports. Especially in the protection of minors, not only the Juvenile Protection Law has special regulations, but also the newly revised Law on the Prevention of juvenile delinquency has special regulations, which provide clear guidelines for what news media should and should not do in the work involving minors. For journalists, in their daily editing work, they should pay attention to the following three points: firstly, they should strictly comply with relevant regulations related to the protection of minors, and carry out news publicity and public opinion supervision work in accordance with the law. For example, accurately interpreting national policies and regulations on the protection of minors, timely exposing and criticizing behaviors that infringe on the legitimate rights and interests of minors, and achieving scientific supervision, accurate supervision, legal supervision, and constructive supervision; For some hot and difficult issues, actively resolve doubts and doubts, timely guide emotions, and reasonably guide public opinion; During the reporting process, the legitimate rights and interests of minors should be protected in accordance with the law, and the privacy of minors should not be exposed. In this regard, mainstream media and rule of law media should particularly leverage their authority and professional advantages to play a leading role in demonstration. We should analyze the social issues behind news incidents involving minors from a legal perspective, focus on solving problems, promoting work, and promoting clarity.
