From May 7th to 8th, the second China Lingjiatan Cultural Forum was held in Ma'anshan City, Anhui Province. Since its first excavation in 1987, it has undergone 14 excavations and has unearthed over 3000 precious cultural relics such as exquisite jade ritual vessels, stone tools, and pottery. In 2012, the first Lingjiatan Cultural Forum was held in Ma'anshan. What have been the achievements of the Lingjiatan Cultural Forum held again after many years? Lingjiatan is expected to become a demonstration of China's over 5000 year civilization, share the latest excavation results of Lingjiatan, and propose suggestions for the next step of work; At the same time, guiding research on Lingjiatan culture is the two major topics set by the organizers of this forum for the attending delegates. In the keynote speech segment of the forum, Zhang Xiaolei, Associate Researcher of Anhui Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, and Archaeological Excavation Team Leader of Lingjiatan Site, first introduced the latest archaeological excavation results of the site. According to reports, from 2020 to 2022, archaeologists completed an exploration of 180000 square meters of Lingjiatan Site and excavated over 3000 square meters of the site. Expose the large-scale red burned soil ruins in the southern part of the site to find large-scale buildings that match the cemetery; Excavated the northern gap of the outer trench to understand whether there are defensive facilities at the northern end of the site. Zhang Xiaolei focused on the remains of the Liao Festival discovered by archaeologists on the west side of the cemetery. One of the unique jade artifacts unearthed includes the largest stone axe and jade pendant discovered so far in Lingjiatan. In this round of excavation, archaeologists have preliminarily determined that the large area of red burnt soil ruins in the southeast corner of the Lingjiatan site and the central part of the inner trench was the most prosperous period of Lingjiatan culture, dating from 5500 to 5350 years ago. According to Ye Runqing, the director of the Anhui Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, the latest archaeological achievements of Lingjiatan are the first to prove with conclusive archaeological data that the core area of the site has undergone large-scale artificial construction; The discovery of large-scale ceremonial activities related relics for the first time has deepened our understanding of settlement layout, core area functions, and social organizational structure. As the largest regional central settlement in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River during the same period, Lingjiatan is in a leading position in the brilliant development of various regions, playing a key role in the formation of Chinese civilization.
