Chinese Ambassador to Japan: Safeguarding the Correct Direction of Sino Japanese Relations

2023-03-22

Wu Jianghao, China's new ambassador to Japan, said on the 21st that this year marks the 45th anniversary of the conclusion of the Sino Japanese Peace and Friendship Treaty. Standing at a new historical starting point, China hopes to work with Japan to review the spirit of the Treaty, fulfill its obligations, and jointly promote peaceful development, not only maintaining the correct direction of Sino Japanese relations, but also injecting more positive energy into the turbulent world. Wu Jianghao arrived in Japan on the same day to take up his new job. In an interview with Chinese and Japanese media at the airport, he said that China and Japan are separated by a strip of water and navigable by a reed. Entering the new era, as an eternal neighbor, we should learn from history and jointly create the future. We should live together peacefully and cooperate with each other for mutual benefit. We must adhere to the principles established in the four political documents between China and Japan, follow the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, never forget our original intentions, eliminate interference, and promote the healthy operation of China Japan relations on the right track. Wu Jianghao said that China Japan practical cooperation has a huge volume, profound foundation, and broad prospects. "Decoupling and breaking the chain" and "camp confrontation" are not in line with the fundamental interests of the two countries and their peoples, and run counter to the trend of history and the times. The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has sounded the clarion call for a new journey of Chinese path to modernization, and the major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and China's high-quality opening up have pressed the "acceleration key", which will provide new opportunities and inject new impetus into the exchanges and cooperation between China and Japan in various fields. The two sides should raise the level of cooperation, expand common interests, and bring greater benefits to the two peoples. Wu Jianghao expressed that as a major country in the region and the world's second and third largest economies, China and Japan jointly shoulder the important responsibility of maintaining regional peace and stability. The two sides should uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core, the international order based on international law, and the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, resist the Cold War mentality, oppose conflict confrontation, and jointly open up a bright future for China Japan relations in the new era.
