2023-03-03

On the 1st, the Finnish parliament voted to approve the government's proposal on Finland's accession to NATO, as well as international agreements and legislative proposals related to its accession to NATO. The Finnish parliament has 200 seats. In the vote of the day, there were 184 affirmative votes and 7 negative votes. One of the opponents, Mustayervi, a member of the left-wing coalition, believes that Finland has not set any preconditions for joining NATO. After being approved by the parliament, Finland's proposal to join NATO will be submitted to President Ninito. Ninesto previously said that he would confirm the relevant proposals immediately after the approval of the parliament. Last May, Finland and neighboring Sweden simultaneously applied to join NATO. According to the regulations, NATO can only recruit new members on the premise of "unanimous agreement" of 30 member countries. At present, Türkiye and Hungary have not officially ratified Finland and Sweden's accession. (Outlook New Era)
