Strengthen nuclear power through scientific research and protect people's life and health

Narrator: In the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Professor Juan from the State Key Laboratory of Radiation Medicine and Radiation Protection of Suzhou University and the School of Radiation Medicine and Protection pointed out that we should adhere to the priority of education development, self-reliance in science and technology, and talent leadership drive, and accelerate the construction of a strong country in education, science and technology, and talent. As an educational and scientific research worker in colleges and universities, I am deeply encouraged by the two major tasks of teaching and educating people and scientific research and innovation. The State Key Laboratory of Radiation Medicine and Radiation Protection of Suzhou University where I work is the only State Key Laboratory in this field in China. The predecessor of the College of Radiation Medicine and Protection can be traced back to the Department of Radiation Medicine of Suzhou Medical College, which was established in response to the "two bombs and one satellite" project. It is responsible for researching and solving major scientific problems in the field of radiation protection and national security, as well as radiation diagnosis and treatment, In particular, relevant research on the major needs of nuclear safety and sustainable development of nuclear energy. We are duty-bound to protect the life and health of the country and people. I am mainly engaged in the research of radiochemistry, focusing on the applied basic research of coordination chemistry of actinides, which is the key element in nuclear energy. Once the actinides enter the human body in a large amount in the event of an accident, it will be difficult to be discharged, and long-term deposition will cause irreversible damage. How to expel actinides accumulated in human body is one of the important bottlenecks in the field of nuclear safety. Focusing on this major demand, we have carried out the research of actinide in vivo scavengers in combination with the long-term research accumulation of the team on the chemical properties of radionuclides, proposed innovative design concepts of scavengers based on the coordination chemistry characteristics of actinide, and obtained a variety of new small molecules and nano scavengers. At present, we have achieved efficient excretion of actinides in mice and are actively promoting preclinical research and clinical transformation. These expellants are expected to play an important role in the emergency treatment of nuclear accidents in the future, and also have important significance for the safety protection of nuclear workers and the public. The young teachers and students in my team adhere to the spirit core of "family and country feelings, career first, responsibility paramount, medical service for the country, nuclear service for the country" of the Medical College, closely focus on the needs of the country and the people and the key problems and bottleneck technologies in the field of "choking", keep innovation in scientific research, actively explore new directions and solve new problems. In the future, my team and I will turn the study and implementation of the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress into a driving force for hard development, inherit and carry forward the spirit of "two bombs and one star", have the courage and courage to make breakthroughs and innovations, do scientific research needed by the motherland and the people, cultivate more excellent students, and make greater contributions to the health of our people, nuclear safety and sustainable development of nuclear energy.
