In a case | Can widowed children and daughter-in-law inherit their parents in law's inheritance?

2022-10-18

Case: Mr. Zhang and Mrs. Li have one son and four daughters. One year, his son died unfortunately. Since then, the two elders have lived together with their daughter-in-law Wang and granddaughter Zhang in a house owned by the two elders in a community. Ten years later, Mr. Zhang and Mrs. Li died one after another, leaving the house behind. The four daughters of the two elders thought that the inheritance should be shared equally among them, and asked Wang to move out as soon as possible. Wang proposed that he should share the inheritance of the two elders because he had done his main duty of support during their lifetime. Is Wang's request legal? It is legal to speak in terms of cases. Article 1129 of the Civil Code stipulates that a widowed daughter-in-law who has made major contributions to his parents in law and a widowed son-in-law who has made major contributions to his parents in law shall be the first in line of succession.
