Zhao Lijian: the Chinese Embassy and consulate in the United States are discussing solutions with relevant US aviation departments

2021-12-31

Recently, many flights from the United States to China were postponed or cancelled. American Airlines suddenly announced the cancellation of its flight when it was only a few hours away from the plane's take-off. Delta Airlines even returned after half the journey, bringing huge losses to Chinese passengers. In response, foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said at a regular press conference on December 29 that the Chinese Embassy and consulate in the United States actively provided assistance to the passengers concerned and made solemn representations to the relevant US aviation departments at the first time, urging them to protect the legitimate rights and interests of the passengers. According to media reports, relevant technicians have said that the return was caused by China's ban on flights, which is inconsistent with the facts. "Recently, the shortage of manpower of American Airlines has become prominent, and the crew members fear the frequent occurrence of attendance under the epidemic, which has led to the cancellation of domestic and international flights in the United States. The Chinese Embassy and consulate in the United States is communicating with relevant aviation departments to actively understand the specific technical problems and explore solutions to avoid the recurrence of similar incidents."
