Let the Tree of Friendship between Chinese and American Teenagers Grow Strongly -- A Study Tour of the "Friendship Inheritance" Research Team at Mascatine High School in China

2024-04-26

In 1985, Xi Jinping, the secretary of the Zhengding County Party Committee, led an agricultural delegation to visit the United States. In the small town of Mascatine in Iowa, he met several ordinary American people and formed deep friendships with them, writing a beautiful story of friendly exchanges between the Chinese and American people. "Differences don't stop us from becoming friends." "I'm glad to have the opportunity to come to China." "I was very excited all the way." "The roads in Beijing are very wide, and the flowers on both sides of the roads are really beautiful." On April 17th, the "Friendship Inheritance" study group from Mascatine High School arrived in Beijing, starting an 8-day study tour. In the hotel lobby, American students dragging their luggage and queuing up to check in eagerly shared their experiences and feelings with the Chinese students who came to greet them. This is the second batch of Mascatin high school students to come to China for exchange and learning this year. Last November, during President Xi Jinping's visit to the United States, he announced that China would invite 50000 American teenagers to China for exchange and study in the next five years. Under the care of President Xi Jinping, from January 24 to 30, the first group of more than 20 students from Muscatine Middle School came to China for exchange visits. The 32 students in this research group are all first-time visitors to China. To help them adapt to Chinese life faster, 32 Chinese students from Shijiazhuang Foreign Language School paired up with them and embarked on a journey of friendship together. Beijing is the first stop of the study camp. The lush Olympic Forest Park, the majestic Forbidden City, the majestic Great Wall, and the scholarly Chinese schools all leave a deep impression on teachers and students from across the ocean. On the afternoon of the 18th, the research group arrived at the alma mater of scientist Qian Xuesen - Beijing Normal University Affiliated Middle School. The school has prepared a warm welcome event for guests who come from afar, allowing Chinese and American teenagers to experience a series of courses with Chinese cultural characteristics, such as guqin, teapot throwing, Peking Opera, and ethnic dance. "I enjoy dancing and often do it in the United States. The Chinese ethnic dance I experienced today is very different from the dances I usually do in the United States. Especially these distinctive ethnic costumes, they are truly unforgettable," said American student Ajab excitedly. In the fashion design experience class, Caden Calig, encouraged by his Chinese friend Yuan Yifan, put on a white shirt with Chinese elements that he participated in the design. Faced with media footage, 15-year-old Kaiden Calig looked a bit shy and said, "There are many tall buildings here that are different from my hometown. Although I haven't known my Chinese friends for a long time and there are still some language barriers when communicating, I can feel her kindness and help. I am very grateful." Yuan Yifan said, she is about the same age as Kaiden Calig
