Successful hoisting of the first wind turbine for the world's highest altitude and largest wind power project under construction

2024-04-23

A new green energy landmark is added to the north foot of the lofty the Himalayas. An A25 wind turbine with a basic altitude of 4987 meters and a total altitude of 5092 meters has become a striking "windmill" on the snow covered plateau... On April 20, the first wind turbine hoisting of the wind farm of the China Nuclear Corporation's first wind power project in Xizang, the China Nuclear Sakya 300000 kW wind power storage integration project, was completed in the plateau mountains of Saga County, Shigatse City, Xizang Autonomous Region, invested by China Nuclear Huineng Xizang Company and contracted by China Nuclear Erer Company. According to calculations, the highest altitude in the wind farm area reaches 5193 meters, making it the world's highest under construction wind power project with the largest individual capacity. It is understood that the project is located at the northern foothills of the Himalayas, only about 140 kilometers away from Mount Everest. The total installed capacity is 300 megawatts, including 200 megawatts of wind power. A total of 40 wind turbines are installed, with a single unit capacity of 5 megawatts. The diameter of a single fan rotor is 183 meters, the length of the blades is 90.1 meters, the height of the hub is 105 meters, and the total weight is 483.9 tons. Under normal operation, a single fan blade can produce about 3 kWh of electricity per revolution, and 5000 kWh of electricity per hour of rotation, which can meet the annual electricity demand of four ordinary households. It is reported that after the completion of the project, the annual power generation will be nearly 600 million kilowatt hours, which is equivalent to saving about 164200 tons of standard coal, reducing sulfur dioxide emissions by about 453400 tons, and carbon dioxide emissions by about 4500100 tons per year, effectively promoting the high-quality development of the local economy and society.
