18300 people were allowed to enter Hong Kong after the launch of talent endorsements for travel between Hong Kong and Macau

On the 7th, Deputy Secretary for Security of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Cheuk Hsiao yip, stated that the talent endorsement for travel between Hong Kong and Macau was launched in February last year, and as of mid April, 18300 people were allowed to enter Hong Kong as visitors. A member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region has stated that the number is expected to double after further relaxation of the talent endorsement policy. In February last year, the talent endorsement program for traveling between Hong Kong and Macao was officially launched, piloting the implementation of talent endorsement programs for traveling between Hong Kong and Macao in mainland cities of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, in order to facilitate mainland talents from the Greater Bay Area to come to Hong Kong for scientific research, education, health, law, business and other exchanges and visits. Zhuo Xiaoye stated at a meeting of the Security Affairs Committee of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region that over 50% of the 18300 visitors allowed to enter Hong Kong as visitors are scientific, educational, and health professionals holding a 3-year visa. An additional 18000 visa applications from foreign Hong Kong residents for "one visa, multiple travel" to the mainland have been approved. It is worth mentioning that the policy on talent endorsement for Hong Kong and Macao has been further relaxed recently. The National Immigration Administration recently announced that starting from May 6th, the duration of stay in Hong Kong and Macao for individuals holding business visas for Hong Kong and Macao will be extended from 7 days to 14 days, and the policy for talent visas for Hong Kong and Macao will be expanded from mainland cities in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area to Beijing and Shanghai. Shang Hailong, founding president of the Hong Kong Talent Service Association and member of the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, expressed gratitude for the support provided by the government to Hong Kong's economic development. He believes that the new measures will help strengthen Hong Kong's advantage in building the "Eight Centers". "To build the" Eight Centers ", Hong Kong is clearly lacking in talent, so it is very important to introduce talents from the mainland, especially from Beijing and Shanghai, to Hong Kong.". For example, Shang Hailong pointed out that in the past, local universities have signed a large number of cooperation agreements with mainland universities, research institutions, national laboratories, etc. However, due to the short stay time approved by visas in Hong Kong, cooperation has been to some extent restricted. Mainland companies also face travel restrictions when holding roadshows for listing in Hong Kong. But under the new measures, these obstacles can all be easily overcome. Shang Hailong believes that with the addition of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, which have already enjoyed convenient measures earlier, all of China's most developed first tier cities have achieved talent integration with Hong Kong under the new measures. He believes that this will increase the number of talents coming to Hong Kong to 30000 to 40000. (Lai Xin She)
