The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong Chinese Manufacturers Association, the Hong Kong Federation of Industries, and the Hong Kong Chinese General Chamber of Commerce issued a joint statement on the 19th, stating their strong support for the development plan of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government for the Xintian Science and Technology City. Hong Kong is at a critical moment of industrial transformation, and the Xintian Science and Technology City will be an important engine driving Hong Kong towards new industrialization. We believe that the planning has achieved a balance between industrial development and environmental protection, and we hope that all sectors can gather consensus as soon as possible, resolve differences with a pragmatic and flexible attitude, and enable development projects to be launched as soon as possible. The statement mentioned that the statutory plan for Xintian Science and Technology City has been published in the constitution, and the Urban Planning Commission is inviting the public to submit their applications on or before May 8th. The Environmental Advisory Committee will discuss the "Xintian/Lok Ma Chau Development Hub Environmental Assessment Report" at its meeting on April 22nd. The entire Xintian Science and Technology City covers an area of 1004 hectares, and according to the environmental impact assessment report, more than 240 hectares of proposed development areas are located in wetland conservation areas and wetland buffer zones, of which more than 60%, or about 144 hectares, are brown land (referring to abandoned industrial or commercial land that can be reused) and filled fish ponds, as well as developed land such as border control stations; The remaining nearly 40%, or about 90 hectares of fish ponds, have been abandoned or have no aquaculture activities, and it is these 90 hectares of land that have attracted conservation attention. The statement stated that the proportion of disputed land area in the current planning of Xintian Science and Technology City is not high, and this should not slow down the development of the entire project. The development of Xintian Technology City is a basic consensus among various sectors in Hong Kong, and the business community also strongly supports environmental protection. The current differences are not insurmountable. The statement mentioned that Hong Kong is at a critical moment of industrial transformation once again, and the development of Xintian Science and Technology City cannot be compromised. All sectors should prioritize the overall situation and strive to seek maximum consensus, so that the project can proceed at full speed. The business community also urges the government to formulate various response strategies without affecting the development progress of the Xintian Science and Technology City, to ensure that the relevant projects can be carried out as soon as possible, so as not to hinder the development of Hong Kong's innovation and new industrialization, and affect Hong Kong's long-term development.
