The World's Highest Observatory Completed in Chile

On May 3rd local time, according to local media reports in Chile, the Atacama Observatory (TAO), built over 26 years in the northern desert of the country, was completed this week. TAO is located on Mount Chaimanto at an altitude of 5640 meters, which is why it was recorded in the Guinness World Records and became the highest astronomical observatory in the world. There are more than ten observatories and radio observatories in northern Chile, most of which are located in the Antofagasta, Atacama, and Coimbo regions. Among them, 29 municipalities are listed by the Chilean government as areas of astronomical scientific research value. (Lai Xin She)
