History and Civilization Research Base Established in Hong Kong

The History and Civilization Research Base, jointly established by the University of Hong Kong, Peking University, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was unveiled and established in Hong Kong on the 21st. Its aim is to explore new frontiers in Chinese history and civilization research and promote collaborative research between important academic institutions in mainland China and Hong Kong in related fields. The base will operate based on the China Institutional Research Center of the University of Hong Kong. The President of the University of Hong Kong, Cheung Cheung, delivered a speech at the unveiling ceremony on the same day, stating that the University of Hong Kong strongly supports cutting-edge research in world Chinese studies and established the China System Research Center five years ago. The History and Civilization Research Base will make a unique contribution to the continuous dialogue between Chinese civilization and world civilization. Wang Bo, Vice President of Peking University, stated in his speech that the establishment of the History and Civilization Research Base will further deepen the cooperation between Peking University, the University of Hong Kong, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in academic research and talent cultivation, promote in-depth exchanges among scholars in related fields, cultivate excellent academic achievements that can answer the questions of the times, serve the governance needs of Hong Kong's governance and development, and help Hong Kong better integrate into the overall development of the country. The Deputy Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chew Wing hing, said that he hopes that the research base can promote the development of historical and cultural education in Hong Kong, allowing young people to experience different cultures, deepen their understanding of national and global development, strengthen their national identity, and contribute to the progress of civilization in Hong Kong and even the whole world. He introduced that the SAR government has been committed to promoting the promotion of Chinese culture and will establish an Office for Promoting Chinese Culture in April to plan and promote activities related to Chinese culture and history, promote patriotic education, and enhance the national identity and cultural confidence of the general public. Lu Xinning, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong, and Pan Yundong, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Hong Kong, attended the unveiling ceremony. After the ceremony, the first Forum on History and Civilization was also held, where multiple experts and scholars gave speeches and discussions on topics such as cultural exchange and mutual learning.
