For the first time, medical talents in the Greater Bay Area have achieved two-way communication

2024-03-21

The Hong Kong Hospital Authority (HKHA) recently held a press conference to announce that in January of this year, it dispatched Hong Kong radiologists, physicists, and nursing service teams to multiple tertiary hospitals in mainland cities of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area for exchange activities. This is the first time that the "Greater Bay Area Medical Talent Exchange Program" has achieved two-way communication. The Medical Management Bureau launched the "Greater Bay Area Medical Talent Exchange Plan" in 2022, introducing mainland nurses, traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, radiologists, and others to Hong Kong, deepening professional exchanges with medical talents in Guangdong Province, and promoting the development of public medical services in the two regions. Earlier, medical teams from Guangdong Province had already come to Hong Kong for exchanges through this plan. In January of this year, the Medical Authority dispatched a 45 member Hong Kong medical exchange team for the first time to several tertiary hospitals in mainland cities of the Greater Bay Area, including Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital, Sun Yat sen Hospital of Sun Yat sen University, and the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat sen University, for a 3-day to 12 day exchange activity. The team members include 14 radiologists, 5 physicists, and 26 nursing staff. At the press conference held on the 18th, three medical staff members participating in the exchange program were Li Guowei, Senior Radiologist at the Radiology Department of Boai Hospital, Chen Xiaoqiang, Senior Physicist at the Oncology Department of Christian Union Hospital (Medical Physics Department), and Guo Huimin, General Manager of Nursing at Tseung Kwan O Hospital. When sharing their experiences of communication in mainland China with reporters, they all mentioned the widespread application of artificial intelligence in medical institutions in mainland China. Li Guowei stated that during the communication period, it was observed that the penetration rate of artificial intelligence technology in medical services in mainland China is very high, and there are even independently developed technologies, especially in the field of diagnosis and treatment services. With just a mobile phone in hand, patients can self book doctors and check the treatment process. There is also a clear electronic screen outside the department to display the patient's waiting time and consultation room, providing patients with a good experience. Chen Xiaoqiang stated that the five physicists mainly conducted research on radiation therapy and found that the mainland has also incorporated the use of artificial intelligence technology in radiation therapy, which not only improves the quality of radiation therapy but also significantly shortens the treatment time for patients. He also mentioned that during the communication process, colleagues from mainland hospitals expressed great appreciation for Hong Kong's rigorous inspection of the quality of radiation therapy. Guo Huimin stated that medical services in mainland China are patient-centered, equipped with patient tracking systems and intelligent diagnosis area navigation systems. Due to the presence of patient data and analysis reports in hospitals, when patients come to the hospital for examination, messages will be sent to remind them of the importance of clothing, food, housing, and transportation. These designs have left a deep impression on the inspectors. She hopes to deepen the exchange of medical talent training between the two regions in the future. (Lai Xin She)
