2024-03-21

On March 19th, the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area (Nansha) Crew Rights Protection Service Station was officially established, dedicated to resolving disputes over crew rights protection and further optimizing and improving the shipping development environment in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. As the gateway of Nansha Free Trade Zone and Guangzhou International Shipping Hub, Nansha Port Area has an annual number of 300000 ships entering and leaving the port, and more than 3 million crew members entering and leaving the port. According to Fang Haibo from the Nansha Maritime Affairs Office in Guangzhou, as of now, the "Crew Medical Special Line" established by the Nansha Maritime Affairs Office has successfully rescued more than 170 injured and sick crew members. At the same time, the first "Happy Crew Cabin" in Guangzhou Port has been established, and the first female maritime labor inspection team in the country has been formed. The Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area (Nansha) Crew Rights Protection Service Station (hereinafter referred to as the "Service Station") will focus on mediating crew labor disputes, promoting crew rights protection education, and inspecting maritime labor conditions. It will work together to promote the standardization of crew labor contracts and employment agreements, provide more fair, convenient, efficient, and low-cost services to resolve crew rights protection disputes, effectively safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of crew members and shipowners, create a harmonious and stable shipping order and environment, and promote the construction of the Nansha Free Trade Zone and the development of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area's shipping economy. It is understood that the service station will be jointly operated by Guangzhou Nansha Maritime Affairs Bureau, Nansha District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, and Nansha District Longxue Street Office. The three parties will fully leverage their professional advantages in crew management, labor security, mediation and arbitration, and with the aim of "sharing resources, complementary advantages, serving crew, and contributing to society", take the opportunity of joint construction to fully play the role of crew rights protection service stations, and integrate and complement the grassroots labor dispute governance system. At present, the labor dispute mediation work of the service station is only applicable to shipping companies and crew members registered in Nansha, Guangdong. It will provide targeted services for 33 shipping companies registered in Nansha District and more than 7000 crew members under it. (Lai Xin She)
