The original text is: "Either sit down and discuss the Tao; or do it by doing it; or judge the surface and stick to it, to judge the five talents, to distinguish the tools of the people; or use the treasures of the four directions for reference; or use strength to grow land and wealth; or use silk and hemp to achieve it." Later generations often use "rather than sitting down and discussing the Tao, it is better to stand up and act" to express the reason for achieving things through action than empty words. The equal emphasis on knowledge and action is an important characteristic of ancient Chinese thought and method, as well as an important requirement of Marxist methodology. Wang Yangming advocated that "knowledge is the beginning of action, and action is the result of knowledge." Zhu Xi once said, "The clearer the knowledge, the more steadfast the action; the more steadfast the action, the more enlightened the knowledge." This is similar to Marx's emphasis on "whether human thinking has objective truth, which is not a theoretical problem, but a practical problem.".
