Chinese official: Nearly 20 overseas martyr memorial facilities in more than 10 countries have been repaired and protected

Li Jingxian, Deputy Director of the Commendation and Commemoration Department (International Cooperation Department) of the Chinese Ministry of Veterans Affairs, stated in Beijing on the 29th that nearly 20 overseas martyr memorial facilities have been repaired and protected in more than 10 countries, including North Korea, Ethiopia, Zambia, Sudan, Burkina Faso, Laos, and Myanmar. The Ministry of Veterans Affairs held a press conference on the same day, introducing the work situation of employment, entrepreneurship, and martyr praise for retired soldiers in 2023. Li Jingxian made the above statement in response to a question from a journalist from China News Agency regarding the commendation of international cooperation by heroes and martyrs. Li Jingxian said that according to statistics, China has more than 300 martyr memorial facilities in more than 50 countries and regions overseas, burying more than 110000 martyrs in total. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China has approved the establishment of a leadership group for the protection and management of overseas martyr memorial facilities, specifically responsible for the protection and management of overseas martyr memorial facilities. Speaking of the specific work carried out in recent years, Li Jingxian introduced that China has closely communicated with multiple countries, signed cooperation agreements on the protection and management of overseas martyr memorial facilities, and continuously expanded the achievements of bilateral cooperation. Li Jingxian stated that China has sent multiple delegations to relevant countries to conduct surveys and exchanges, promote the repair and protection of overseas martyr memorial facilities, and continuously improve the level of protection and management of memorial facilities. At present, nearly 20 memorial facilities in more than 10 countries have been repaired and protected, including the Korean Kuikang, Kaesong, Anzhou, Jiangdong and Shun'an Volunteer Army Martyrs Cemetery, the Ethiopian May Gengnian Martyrs Cemetery, the Zambia Tanzania Railway Memorial Park, the Sudan Chinese Experts Cemetery, the Burkina Faso Chinese Experts Cemetery, the Laos Xieng Khouang, Mong Sai and Namo Chinese Martyrs Cemetery, and the Myanmar Myitkyina Chinese Expeditionary Force Memorial Facilities for the fallen soldiers. Li Jingxian stated that China will deeply explore the deeds of the martyrs, do a good job in displaying commemorative facilities for overseas martyrs, tell the stories of Chinese martyrs well, and consolidate and develop traditional friendship between China and foreign countries; Actively carry out the protection and management of foreign commemorative facilities in China, reach agreements with relevant countries and regions on the repair and protection of commemorative facilities in China, and continue to promote the repair and protection project. He also mentioned that regarding the inheritance and promotion of the spirit of the Flying Tigers, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs is working together with relevant parties to strengthen research and verification, actively promote search and excavation related work, comfort the families of sacrificial personnel, tell the story of Sino US cooperation in the Anti Japanese War, and promote Sino US civilian exchanges. According to the press conference on that day, over the past year, the Chinese Ministry of Veterans Affairs has signed bilateral cooperation agreements with relevant departments of Algeria and Zambia. Holding the 15th round of consultations on military memorial facilities between China and Russia, continuously consolidating bilateral friendly cooperation with relevant countries and regions such as South Korea, North Korea, and Vietnam, standardizing the protection and management of the Tanzania Zambia Railway Memorial Park, completing the renovation and protection of martyr memorial facilities in Laos and Myanmar, and holding the completion and opening ceremony of the park, relying on overseas martyr memorial facilities to inherit international friendship and help build a community with a shared future for mankind.
