"The Garden of Ten Thousand Gardens" Recreates Guanghua (Visiting the National Archaeological Site Park)

French writer Hugo once wrote, "Imagine an indescribable building, some kind of moon palace like structure, and this is the Old Summer Palace. Build a dream out of marble, jade, bronze, and porcelain... add gardens, square pools, fountains, and flocks of swans, egrets, and peacocks." The Qing Dynasty royal garden, the Old Summer Palace, was once renowned for its extraordinary artistic charm and was regarded as an Eastern miracle comparable to the Greek Parthenon and Egyptian pyramids. However, in 1860, it was destroyed by war and a large number of treasures were lost overseas, making the "Garden of Ten Thousand Gardens" completely unrecognizable. The Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park, built on the ruins, has gradually regained its former glory after years of cleaning and construction, archaeological excavation, protection and restoration. Here, people can visit the ruins, get close to history, experience imperial garden culture, and appreciate natural beauty. The former forbidden areas of palaces and gardens blend into public life with a warm and colorful attitude. The digital restoration ruins enter from the east gate of the park, pass through the Lion Grove ruins, and arrive at the Shengshi Panoramic Model Exhibition Hall of the Old Summer Palace. A sand table model, approximately 17 meters long and 13 meters wide, presents the historical buildings and scenery of the Old Summer Palace clearly before our eyes. The Old Summer Palace was first built in the 46th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1707), and went through more than 150 years of construction. Before it was destroyed in the 10th year of the Xianfeng reign (1860), it covered an area of about 352 hectares and was composed of the Old Summer Palace, Changchun Garden, and Qichun Garden. Among them, the Old Summer Palace is the largest, so it is collectively known as the Old Summer Palace (also known as the Three Old Summer Gardens). At its peak, the Old Summer Palace embodies the pinnacle of garden art from ancient and modern times, both domestically and internationally, and is known as the "Garden of Ten Thousand Gardens". The emperors of Yongzheng, Qianlong, Jiaqing, Daoguang, and Xianfeng once resided in the garden to manage politics, leaving behind many historical stories. This sand table is made according to the landscape design of the prosperous period of the Old Summer Palace recorded in historical materials, which is meticulous and realistic. Just like the epitome of China's territory, "Jiuzhou Qingyan", "Zhengda Guangming" holding major national events, "Qinzheng Qinxian" of the emperor's governance during the reign, "Hongci Yonghu" worshipping ancestors, and the Wenyuan Pavilion built in imitation of the Tianyi Pavilion Library in Ningbo... With voice explanations, different architectural landscapes of different periods and types are illuminated one by one, giving people a visual understanding of the construction process, functional layout, artistic style, and so on of the Old Summer Palace. Changchun Garden was built during the Qianlong period. The Western style building scenic area located in the north of Changchun Garden is the earliest European style garden in China. It was designed by Italian missionary Lang Shining and French missionary Jiang Youren, and has Baroque and Rococo styles, as well as incorporating elements of traditional Chinese architectural culture. The building materials are mostly White Marble stone, the stone surface is carved carefully, and the roof is covered with wooden beams and colored glazed tiles. After being ravaged by war, the wooden buildings in the Old Summer Palace have been reduced to ashes, and the Western style building ruins, mainly composed of brick and stone components, have become the most iconic attraction in the Old Summer Palace. Standing in front of the remaining stone pillars of the Western style building, opening the navigator, the screen displays the old scenery of the Western style building: magnificent halls, spectacular fountains, exquisite stone carvings... The historical restoration scene contrasts with the ruins in front of us, creating a sense of time and space interweaving. The 'Digital Old Summer Palace' project was launched in 2009, using digital technology to virtually restore the Old Summer Palace based on historical documents, image files, hot stamping samples, image materials, and other information
