Xiamen promotes "in hospital direct handling" to facilitate reimbursement of medical expenses for Taiwanese residents

2024-02-28

On February 26th, the medical insurance department of Xiamen City, in collaboration with the Lujiang Notary Office, officially launched the "Hospital Direct Handling" health insurance refund notarization service for Taiwanese residents who have been hospitalized for more than 5 days (including 5 days) at the Xiamen Changgeng Hospital Medical Insurance Service Station. This means that it is more convenient for Taiwanese residents to seek medical treatment in Xiamen and apply for Taiwan's health insurance reimbursement (i.e. reimbursement of medical expenses). They can handle the notarization procedures for health insurance reimbursement in one stop without leaving the hospital for more than 5 days (including 5 days) of hospitalization. The Xiamen Medical Insurance Bureau stated that this is a pioneering move in mainland China. Since its trial operation, it has successfully processed online notarization services for 7 Taiwanese compatriots. "The procedures for obtaining a health insurance refund involve notarization. Originally, I had to go to the notary office to handle them myself, but now I can handle them directly at the hospital when I am discharged, which is very convenient for us Taiwanese." Mr. Liu, a Taiwanese resident who was hospitalized at Chang Gung Hospital, couldn't help but sigh as the first person to experience it. It is understood that in order to solve the difficulties of reimbursement of medical expenses for Taiwanese residents who participate in Taiwan's health insurance in Xiamen, such as long distance, complicated procedures, and long deadlines, the Xiamen medical insurance department has previously provided health insurance refund and settlement services for Taiwanese residents to handle outpatient, emergency, and hospital stay within 5 days at 8 medical insurance Taiwanese service stations in the city. However, the reimbursement and settlement of medical expenses for Taiwanese residents who have been hospitalized for more than 5 days (including 5 days) still require them to first complete the notarization procedures at a notary office in mainland China after discharge, and then go to Taiwan to handle subsequent matters after receiving the notarization certificate, which has become a major concern for Taiwanese residents seeking medical treatment in mainland China. To this end, the medical insurance department of Xiamen City, together with the Lujiang Notary Office and Xiamen Changgeng Hospital, has pioneered the "medical insurance+notarization" service nationwide, promoting the pilot of the Taiwan compatriot health insurance withdrawal notarization process to be moved to the medical insurance Taiwan compatriot service station, achieving "in hospital direct processing" and "online notarization", and truly allowing Taiwan compatriots to enjoy medical convenience. After completing the notarization process at the medical insurance Taiwan compatriot service station, Taiwanese compatriots can choose to mail or collect the original notarized certificate. After receiving the original notarized certificate and confirming that the Taiwan Straits Foundation has obtained a copy of the notarized certificate, they can go to Taiwan to handle subsequent refund matters.
