The ordinary battle and struggle of youth | The path of youth extends beneath our feet

2024-02-27

Greatness lies in the ordinary, and glory lies in persisting in the towering mountains and vast snow fields. A group of camouflage figures slowly move towards the distance, forming a moving scene in the vast Kunlun Mountains. This is the first day of the Lunar New Year for the officers and soldiers at a certain information and communication base Nachitai Communication Station. Day after day, they are stationed here. For decades, generations of patrol soldiers here have been walking the same path and doing the same thing. For batches of patrol soldiers, their ordinary military career is to guard this communication line. Some people say that being a patrol soldier is great - guarding a route, living next to birds and animals, accompanying loneliness, and using youth to maintain the information artery of national defense. The patrol soldiers said that greatness is seen in the ordinary, and glory lies in perseverance - there is no grand feat, only unknown perseverance. The ordinary path also has a unique charm. Any grand historical narrative is woven from the ordinary stories of countless ordinary people. The life of any ordinary person is connected to this magnificent era. As an important communication node in the national defense fiber optic cable network, they are surging under the "digital river" of national defense information. Perhaps they are like rocks on a plateau mountain road, so ordinary that they are unknown to people; Perhaps in many cases, they may also be fragile, but when they integrate into such a career and walk on such a high-altitude patrol road, they naturally have a mountain like perseverance and majesty. When the crowds of the Spring Festival travel rush across the land of China, with the command issued, the officers and soldiers of the communication station set foot on the familiar route again. This is a path of youth, an ordinary path, as well as their path of struggle and dedication. The road of youth extends under my feet. There is no smoke on the patrol line, only the footprints of the patrol soldiers walking in batches. Nachitai is located in Kunlun, which means "plateau in the swamp" in Tibetan. However, this place has nothing to do with swamps, surrounded by high mountains with an average altitude of 3600 meters, and oxygen content less than 65% of sea level. The great power of nature and the indomitable spirit of humanity collide here: standing at Nachitai and gazing out from afar, the Qinghai Tibet Highway, Qinghai Tibet Railway, and overhead communication optical cables crisscross and stretch, leading directly to Lhasa. In December 2020, Gu Hongcheng, who had just graduated from a military academy, voluntarily applied to come to a certain information and communication base, Nachitai Communication Station. Taking a 24-hour train from his hometown of Chengdu to Golmud, and then taking a nearly 100 kilometer train to get here... As soon as he got off the car, Gu Hongcheng welcomed the first "downward force" of Nachitai: his feet were soft and his body was light, and he could hardly stand. However, the challenges brought by Nachitai to Gu Hongcheng go far beyond these. "Does it take a day to walk 20 kilometers?" This was the question mark in Gu Hongcheng's heart during his first line patrol. After hearing his question, the veteran accompanying him just smiled and said, "We thought the same way during our first patrol.". The several lines they are responsible for patrolling are mostly installed on mountaintops and valleys, with an average altitude of over 4200 meters. The officers and soldiers patrol once a week, crossing three mountains and crossing more than ten seasonal rivers. From "biased three wheel" to "Beijing Jeep", and now to the "Warrior off-road vehicle", the fiber optic patrol vehicle has undergone multiple updates and upgrades. However, for officers and soldiers, their feet still rely the most on "communication"
