Russian Experts: Global Navy Faced with Unmanned Equipment Revolution

2024-02-26

On February 21, the Russian Free Media Network published a report titled "Global Navy Faced with Unmanned Equipment Revolution". In this report, military expert Konstantin Sivkov analyzed the impact of unmanned equipment on the global navy. Konstantin Sivkov pointed out that there are currently two major factors that will have a significant impact on the strategic and tactical operations of navies around the world, as well as the actions of all branches. Firstly, the emergence of drones (boats) as a tactical and even strategic weapon in combat, followed by the widespread application of high-precision missile technology. There are two types of naval operations: naval warfare and land target warfare. The development of unmanned equipment began to play a significant role in fleet to fleet combat. Previously, warships could only detect targets within radar observation range, but now drones (boats) can be used to observe targets at longer distances. In the past, reconnaissance methods required to use missiles included airplanes, submarines, and spacecraft. Nowadays, traditional reconnaissance methods are supported by drones, and these drones have been organically integrated with missile systems. In addition, using drones to deal with targets cruising in specific areas of the ocean for a long time can be very effective, and can effectively strike submarines. The same goes for anti submarine unmanned boats. Unmanned equipment in the air and underwater can effectively complete such tasks, reducing the risk of personnel loss to zero. The carrier of unmanned equipment can be ships, submarines, or airplanes, while unmanned equipment can be drones, water unmanned boats, or unmanned submarines. Unmanned equipment can also be classified based on its purpose. They can be tactical drones (boats) - used for reconnaissance and destruction of specific targets within a range of 300 to 400 kilometers. Campaign drones (boats) can be used to strike naval formations, with a combat range of 1500 to 2000 kilometers. Finally, there are strategic drones (boats) that carry out missions throughout the entire battlefield, with a combat range of up to 8000 kilometers. In cross shore operations, the tasks of unmanned equipment will definitely be different. The first problem to be solved is to discover military facilities, including irregular military facilities. The next task is to quickly strike the identified targets. Therefore, what is needed is an integrated drone that can complete both reconnaissance and strike missions, that is, an integrated drone for reconnaissance and strike. Missile weapons can also be used to strike from ships, and at this point, the navy's main advantage - the speed of missile attacks - can come into play. (Lai Xin She)
