Accelerating the Construction of an Independent Knowledge System of Chinese History with Excellent Works

2024-02-26

The Outline of the Newly Compiled General History of China and the Concise Reader of the History of Chinese Civilization are important phased achievements in the compilation project of the Newly Compiled General History of China. They succinctly explain that China is a great country with a history of millions of years of human history, ten thousand years of cultural history, and more than five thousand years of civilization. Based on empirical research on the evolution of social forms, they scientifically explain the development laws of Chinese social history and the characteristics of Chinese civilization. The compilation of these two works is a noble mission entrusted to Chinese history by the new era, highlighting the perspective of China and the times, based on China's reality, solving Chinese problems, continuously promoting the creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture, continuously advancing efforts in knowledge innovation, theoretical innovation, and method innovation, and contributing historical wisdom to the construction of modern civilization of the Chinese nation with new research results. These have important enlightening significance for accelerating the construction of an independent knowledge system of Chinese historiography. Firstly, we must firmly adhere to the soul of Marxism and the root of excellent traditional Chinese culture, consciously consolidating, defending, and developing the subjectivity of Chinese historiography. Constructing an independent knowledge system for Chinese historiography is not only a significant theoretical issue, but also a significant practical one. It requires the support of excellent scientific achievements that are at the forefront of the times, able to understand the changes of the past and present, and have the voice of thought. For example, the research on the emergence of Chinese civilization genes and the formation of Chinese civilization vividly reflects the pursuit of truth and refinement in basic theoretical research, while also paying attention to the characteristics and advantages of reality and serving the overall situation. The author draws on the latest research achievements in the Chinese academic community and, based on extensive and detailed literature, through arduous theoretical exploration, clearly proposes that "around 6000 to 5300 years ago, various regions of China successively entered the early stage of civilization... such as the 'starry sky', shining brightly.". The integration of agricultural civilization, nomadic civilization, and marine civilization has enriched the form and connotation of Chinese civilization. One of the important tasks of contemporary Chinese historiography is to further systematize Marxist historiography theory, making its theoretical framework more complete and logical structure clearer, and becoming a solid foundation for constructing an independent knowledge system of Chinese historiography. The consistent "grand view of history" in the two books is different from the grand view of history advocated by David Christian, which extends the understanding of history in time and space. It emphasizes the organic unity of Marxist historical regularity and historical dialectics. Although it is a "concise reading book" or "outline", we can still clearly see the overall and regular historical narrative of the revival of Chinese civilization from the prehistoric "foundation of civilization" to today. Secondly, be open and inclusive, and draw on the strengths of others. As early as when Sima Qian wrote the Records of the Grand Historian, he not only recorded the history of various ethnic groups in China for the first time, but also wrote the Biography of Dawan, which recorded the history of Central Asian countries and left behind content on cultural exchanges between China and the West
