Wang Yi Holds Talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken

2024-04-26

On April 26, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in Beijing. Wang Yi said that currently, the overall decline of China US relations has stabilized, but negative factors are still on the rise and accumulating. China's attitude, position and requirements on China US relations are consistent. China always views and develops China US relations from the perspective of building a community of shared future for mankind. China always adheres to the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation proposed by President Xi Jinping, and always advocates respect for each other's nuclear interests. Wang Yi said that last November, President Xi Jinping and President Biden met successfully in San Francisco and mapped out the "San Francisco Vision" for the stable, healthy and sustainable development of China US relations, which should be fully implemented by both sides. In the current turbulent and intertwined international situation, the next step in China US relations requires answering a fundamental question, which is whether China and the United States should be partners or rivals. This is the first button for the stable development of China US relations. If the United States always regards China as its primary opponent, the relationship between China and the United States will only be plagued by troubles and problems. Wang Yi pointed out that the right to development of the Chinese people is inalienable. The United States has implemented numerous measures to suppress China's economy, trade, and technology. This is not fair competition, but containment and containment, not risk reduction, but risk creation. The US should implement its statement of not seeking to contain China's economic development, not seeking to "decouple" from China, and having no intention of preventing China's technological progress. It should stop the false narrative of hyping up "China's overcapacity theory", lift illegal sanctions against Chinese enterprises, and stop imposing 301 tariffs that violate World Trade Organization rules. Wang Yi emphasized that the Asia Pacific region should not become a battleground for major powers. I hope the United States can make the right decision, walk in the opposite direction to China, achieve positive interaction in the Asia Pacific region, abandon small circles that exclude each other, do not coerce regional countries to choose sides, stop deploying land-based missiles, stop harming China's strategic security interests, and stop undermining the hard won peace and stability in the region. Antony Blinken said that the US China relationship is the most important bilateral relationship in the world, and responsible management of bilateral relations is the common responsibility of the US and China. The United States does not seek to change the Chinese system, has no intention of conflicting with China, does not seek to decouple from China, does not seek to contain China's development, a developing and successful China is good for the world. We are willing to work with the Chinese side to move forward on the basis of the consensus reached by the two heads of state in San Francisco, strengthen dialogue and communication, effectively control differences, avoid misunderstandings and misjudgments, and promote the stable development of US China relations. Both sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine issue, the Palestinian Israeli conflict, North Korea, Myanmar and other issues. Both sides unanimously believe that the talks are frank, substantive, and constructive, and agree to continue in accordance with the two principles
