Recently, the launch ceremony of the innovative platform for molecular imaging and medical diagnostic and therapeutic probes, led by Peking University, was held in Beijing. This project will achieve full organism scale imaging modality fusion, fill the functional gaps and the final "puzzle" of the national biomedical imaging scientific device, and is planned to be accepted and put into operation in 2026. This project is currently the only cross research platform project approved for construction during the 14th Five Year Plan period in Beijing (the third batch), and has been listed as a key project of the Beijing Municipal Government and a major project for the construction of the Beijing International Science and Technology Innovation Center. The reporter learned that molecular probes are tracer markers with specific biological targeting properties, and are also the core technology and international research frontier in the field of molecular imaging. The development and preparation of molecular probes are crucial for the functionality of biomedical imaging devices and the most important supporting conditions for biomedical imaging platforms. Yang Zhi, a researcher at the National Center for Biomedical Imaging Science at Peking University, director of the Nuclear Medicine Department at the Cancer Hospital, and project leader, explained, "A probe is like a spacecraft we launch into space. It can continuously send back information, and wherever it flies, we can detect it.". We can view molecular probes as labels with signal emission functions. It is understood that, The probe platform project is the second phase of the construction of a national major scientific and technological infrastructure multimodal and cross scale biomedical imaging facility. The probe platform under construction this time is an important component of imaging facilities, which is supported by cross fusion and interactive empowerment with relevant modules of imaging facilities to improve imaging level. The probe platform project will apply standardized and modular scientific ideas to build a comprehensive platform for universal, intelligent, and precise molecular imaging probes, drug research and development, and transformation public services. The main construction includes four experimental sub platforms: live chemistry and probe technology, biological imaging probes, multimodal imaging probes, and medical diagnostic and therapeutic probes, as well as one public service sub platform. In the future, the probe platform will leverage the dual advantages of government investment driving amplification effect and participating enterprise marketization vitality, forming a complete innovation chain of basic theoretical exploration, original probe development, drug analysis and evaluation, drug declaration, new drug clinical trials, and industrialization, and constructing a full chain probe innovation system.
