? The world's southernmost mobile phone base station is activated

According to Agence France Presse on February 6th, Norwegian telecommunications company stated on the 6th that it has installed the world's southernmost mobile phone base station in Antarctica, marking a breakthrough in data collection and researcher security. Norwegian telecommunications company stated that the base station is located at 72 degrees south latitude, near the "Troll" research station, and was put into operation in February this year. Recently, Norwegian telecommunications company also launched the world's northernmost mobile phone base station - the New Olesson base station located at 79 degrees north latitude in the Svalbard Islands of Norway (located within the Arctic Circle). Christian Skoton, the head of Norway Telecom's Svalbard Islands branch, told Agence France Presse that setting up a 4G network near the "Troll" research station has "improved the security of field work.". He added, "This also makes it easier for scientists to collect data with measuring instruments and transmit it in real-time to any part of the world." The "Troll" research station has six maintenance personnel in winter and dozens during the peak scientific activity season in the southern hemisphere summer.
