Attention! These five bad habits can harm the liver

2024-02-05

The liver is an important component of the human body, with many complex functions, including metabolism, synthesis, detoxification, transformation, bile secretion, as well as some hematopoietic and immune functions. As the saying goes, "A good liver never fails.". When the liver is in an unhealthy state, it can lead to diseases such as fatty liver, alcoholic hepatitis, drug-induced hepatitis, and cirrhosis in the human body. Today, we will introduce several bad habits that harm the liver to everyone, hoping to draw their attention. Excessive drinking of alcohol in the liver is the only organ capable of metabolizing alcohol. When it fully breaks down alcohol, it stops transporting fat to the outside of the liver, reducing its ability to purify blood, leading to an increase in toxins in the body and inducing liver damage. Afterwards, transaminases enter the bloodstream, causing an increase in transaminases. So, long-term alcohol consumption can easily lead to alcoholic fatty liver and cirrhosis, which gradually develop into liver cancer. Long term staying up late at night is not only a time for the body to rest, but also a time for the liver to self repair. People often say, "Lie down at night to nourish the liver.". So it is important to develop good sleep habits, avoid staying up late, and not increase the burden on liver function. Long term intake of high calorie and high-fat foods due to unhealthy diet not only increases the burden on the gastrointestinal tract, but also on the liver, leading to the accumulation of fat in the liver or inability to excrete it, resulting in the formation of fatty liver. In addition, ingesting moldy food or consuming half cooked and burnt food can easily produce carcinogens, so it is recommended to have a healthy diet and balanced nutrition. The liver is an important detoxifying organ in the human body, which can dissolve toxins. Many drug instructions indicate that long-term use of drugs can lead to elevated transaminases, and it is necessary to use them reasonably under the guidance of a doctor. Do not use medication indiscriminately without illness to avoid increasing adverse reactions. Many drugs are not only harmful to the body, but also cause damage. Traditional Chinese medicine often says "anger harms the liver.". In modern society, with a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, we are prone to feelings of anger and anxiety. However, if we allow our emotions to flow freely, these negative emotions can harm our liver function and cause liver dysfunction. (Le Xin She) Wen/Ma Xiujuan (Beijing Elderly Hospital)
