Wang Yi Meets with Secretary General of the Arab League Gheit

On January 14th local time, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with the Secretary General of the Arab League, Gheit, in Cairo. Over the past year, both sides have solidly and effectively promoted the implementation of the results of the China Arab Summit. The joint construction of the "the Belt and Road" has achieved "full coverage" in 22 countries of the League of Arab States. The first China Arab Youth Development Forum and the first China Arab human rights exchange were successfully held. The Arab League has become the first regional organization to sign and implement the Global Civilization Initiative with China. China is willing to work with Afghanistan to promote more new progress in practical cooperation between China and Afghanistan. Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China Arab Cooperation Forum. Over the past two decades, the forum has made significant contributions to promoting the development of China Arab relations and has become a "golden brand" of collective cooperation between China and Arab countries. The 10th Ministerial Conference of the Forum is scheduled to be held in China within this year. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the Arab side, prepare and host the conference well, and open up new prospects and inject new impetus into China Arab relations. Gates stated that the first China Arab Summit is of great significance and has triggered a positive response. The Afghan side will continue to implement the outcomes of the summit and important consensus reached by leaders, and take the new ministerial meeting as an opportunity to deepen cooperation in various fields. The Arab League firmly supports the One China principle, supports "One Country, Two Systems", opposes "double standards" in human rights and Xinjiang related issues, and opposes interference in China's internal affairs. We highly appreciate China's impartiality in the Palestinian issue and its important contributions to the ceasefire, cessation of violence, cooling of the situation, and protection of civilians. We believe that China will continue to play an indispensable role. Wang Yi stated that China and Arab countries are true friends and good partners. We appreciate the steadfast support of the Arab League on issues related to China's core interests and major concerns, and China will continue to support Arab countries in achieving joint self-improvement and adhering to strategic autonomy. The world has entered a new period of turbulence and change, and the trend of strengthening unity and cooperation among developing countries is unstoppable. The trend of accelerating development and revitalization is unstoppable, and the determination to independently control the future and destiny is unstoppable. The Chinese side supports the Arab League to play a greater role in regional and world peace and stability, and is willing to work with the Arab side to promote the deepening and implementation of the construction of a community with a shared future between China and the Arab League, and make new contributions to the development and progress of humanity as two major ethnic groups.
