The above pictures are all taken by Zhang Yongtao for core reading in Ningbo, Zhejiang, on the west bank of Moon Lake. For over 400 years, the Tianyi Pavilion has been full of books and cultural heritage. More than 220000 registered collections, including over 300000 volumes of ancient books and 5493 volumes selected for the national list of precious ancient books... Nowadays, Tianyi Pavilion not only follows the ancient system, but also carefully preserves rare books through clever architectural design and strict management system, introduces intelligent technology equipment, cultivates talents in ancient book restoration, and meticulously restores ancient books. Digital platforms and online exhibitions are spreading ancient book culture more widely and further. Located on the west bank of Moon Lake in Ningbo, Zhejiang, is an ancient private library called Tianyi Pavilion. The Tianyi Pavilion was first built during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty and is still full of literary charm to this day. Entering the courtyard, the grass and trees are lush, and the Jiangnan gardens are eye-catching; Climbing up the stairs and looking into the distance, the long corridor twists and turns, and the Tianyi Pool in front of the pavilion ripples with blue waves. The Tianyi Pavilion Museum, which focuses on the library and features book culture, has a registered collection of over 220000 items, including more than 300000 volumes of ancient books and 5493 volumes selected for the National List of Precious Ancient Books. For over 400 years, the Tianyi Pavilion Library and its collection of precious rare books have been symbols of Chinese book culture and a microcosm of the continuous growth of Chinese civilization. There are countless ingenious designs and buildings in the collection, and strict management systems have entered the park. The first thing that catches the eye is the seated statue of Fan Qin, the builder of Tianyi Pavilion. The Dongming Thatched Cottage next to the sculpture was Fan Qin's collection place before the completion of Tianyi Pavilion. It is said that the maximum collection of books is over 70000 volumes. The former residence of the Fan family, separated by a wall from the Dongming Thatched Cottage, was originally the living area of the Fan family. A long fire-resistant tunnel was separated by a high wall between the former residence of the Fan family and the Tianyi Pavilion Library. "Separating the living area from the library is a careful arrangement made to prevent fires from spreading to the library," said Li Kaisheng, director of the Institute of Ancient Books and Local Literature at the Tianyige Museum. With more and more books, and the limited area of the Dongming Thatched Cottage, Fan Qin built a new library. The name "Tianyi Pavilion" originates from the saying "Heaven generates water, and the earth generates 60% of it", implying the idea of using water to control fire. Stepping out of the library, facing you is a pool called "Tianyi Pool". A vast expanse of clear water connects with the Moon Lake through a hidden ditch, ensuring that the pool water never runs out throughout the year. "So it is also used as a fire water pool, in case of fire, there is a nearby water source," said Li Kaisheng. In addition to exquisite construction, book collection management is more stringent. The keys were jointly managed by each room, and locks could not be opened unless all rooms were gathered together... Such regulations also played a positive role in the protection of books at that time. Nowadays, among the more than 300000 volumes of ancient books in the Tianyi Pavilion, there are over 80000 volumes of rare ones, among which the series and scale of Ming Dynasty local chronicles and imperial examination records are the distinctive double treasures. Out of the 271 existing local chronicles of the Ming Dynasty, 164 are solitary copies within the sea. The Northern Library was built in the 1980s, and the third generation library was also built and used more than 10 years ago. Nowadays, on the first floor of the North Book Library, there is also a dedicated display cabinet for the collection of ancient books, with rows of customized camphor wood bookshelves neatly arranged. Upon opening, upon closer inspection, there were volumes of ancient books lying flat on the camphor wood shelf, with occasional white bags of Yunnan grass.
