The new Hong Kong District Council was sworn in on January 1st. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Li Jiachao, met with the media before attending the Executive Council on the 9th and expressed his pleasure to see that the new District Council has begun to show a new atmosphere and appearance since taking office for more than a week. The first general meeting of district councils in Hong Kong has been successfully held. Li Jiachao said that district councils have returned to the nature of non political regional consulting and service organizations required by the Basic Law of Hong Kong, serving regional interests, and are no longer politicized, but focused on practicality. District councilors actively spoke up and put forward constructive suggestions to promote regional economy and solve community problems. Li Jiachao said that the chairman of the district council led a group of district councilors into the community to visit the neighbors; Some district councilors, regardless of their affiliated groups or their own sectors, set up street stations together to listen to the opinions of the citizens and help them solve problems. Each district council will collaborate with local care teams before the Lunar New Year to launch a series of caring actions, providing care and support to the elderly and those in need in the district. Li Jiachao stated that by improving the regional governance system and implementing the principle of "patriots governing Hong Kong" at all levels of special zone governance, the reshaped district council will be a high-quality district council. He delivered a speech at the oath taking ceremony for district councilors, demanding that every district councilor be aware of their responsibilities and fulfill them in their actions, effectively responding to the trust of the citizens and solving various problems in the area. I hope district councilors can demonstrate their achievements as soon as possible, bring improvement to the community, and repay the residents with practical actions. In order to drive the regional economy, various districts in Hong Kong will hold a series of activities from January to May, with the theme of "colorful day and night", showcasing regional characteristics, promoting traditional culture, and creating a festive atmosphere.
