In this list, Guangdong Province has 11 cities on the list, ranking among the top among 31 provinces, regions, and cities. The research group of the "China Urban Social Development Index" at East China University of Science and Technology, combined with the new requirements of urban social development during the 14th Five Year Plan period and the long-term goals of 2035, has optimized the 2023 urban social development indicator system by benchmarking the "people-oriented" nature of people's cities and the new situation of social construction in the new development stage, adjusting it to 7 primary indicators and 47 secondary indicators, Conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the social development status of 297 cities at or above the prefecture level from multiple perspectives. The research group particularly emphasizes the importance of sustained and stable economic growth, full employment in society, and the inheritance of urban culture for the sustainable development of urban society. According to the list, the top ten cities in the comprehensive ranking of China's urban social development index are Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Nanjing, Wuhan, Chengdu, and Tianjin. Beijing and Shanghai lead urban social development, while Shenzhen and Guangzhou advance side by side. The major urban clusters in China have performed excellently in the Top 100 list of social development, with seven out of the top ten cities coming from the three major urban clusters of Beijing Tianjin Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta. Chongqing, Wuhan, and Chengdu, the three central and western cities, have also performed equally well. The top ten cities in China's urban social development have been on the list for five consecutive years, reflecting the strong economic and social development strength of the top ten cities and the comprehensiveness and comprehensiveness of their social development. The distribution of provinces in the top 100 cities in 2023 is more balanced, and some small and medium-sized cities have entered the comprehensive development top 100 list due to their excellent performance in people's livelihood construction, ecological environment, and natural cultural heritage. The number of cities on the list in each province shows that Guangdong, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang provinces are among the top in terms of the number of cities on the list, with 11 selected cities each; The number of cities on the list in Shandong Province has increased to 10, and the number of cities on the list in Fujian Province has increased to 5; Hebei, Jiangxi, Inner Mongolia, and Guangxi have four cities on the list. It is understood that this is the sixth consecutive year that East China University of Science and Technology has publicly released the Top 100 list of urban social development in China.
