Hong Kong launches the "Two Languages and Three Languages Movement" to promote multicultural integration

(Reporter Han Xingtong) The Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Standing Committee on Language Education and Research held the launch ceremony of the "Two Languages and Three Languages Movement" on the 19th, opening a 5-month series of activities, aiming to strengthen the promotion of two languages and three languages in different fields and promote the understanding and integration of multiculturalism. The Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chen Guoji, served as the main guest of honor at the event. He delivered a video speech stating that bilingual and trilingual languages bring out the unique advantages of Hong Kong's language environment. Under the "One Country, Two Systems" policy, Hong Kong has the advantage of relying on its motherland and connecting with the world. It can not only directly participate in the huge market of the mainland, but also connect with the world, becoming a bridge connecting the mainland and the world. He also stated that a good bilingual environment is the key to Hong Kong's ability to integrate Chinese and Western cultures, with approximately 600000 people from different countries, regions, races, and cultures residing in Hong Kong. He expressed that in the context of globalization, he hopes that the SAR government and various sectors can continue to advance and work together to strengthen the promotion of bilingual and trilingual education in different fields, in order to consolidate and enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness on the international stage, and promote Hong Kong to become a more caring and inclusive diverse society. The Secretary for Education of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Tsai Ruo lien, stated in her speech that the government is striving to attract talents and funds from all over the world to Hong Kong for further education, employment, and investment through various talent programs, in order to enhance Hong Kong's development momentum. As a city where international talents gather, Hong Kong has a bilingual language environment. Cultivating bilingual skills not only helps to enhance the competitiveness of Hong Kong's economy, but also promotes the understanding and integration of diverse cultures. Cai Ruolian stated that cultivating students' bilingual and trilingual abilities from an early age is an educational goal, and the Education Bureau provides a series of resources, support, and training for schools and teachers. She stated that the Language Society will organize and support various activities to promote the two languages and three languages with different stakeholders, and hopes that everyone will work together to promote the "two languages and three languages movement", increase Hong Kong's language capital, and demonstrate the status and charm of multiculturalism as an international metropolis. Chen Huanglijuan, Chairman of the Language Association, introduced that during the "Two Languages and Three Languages Movement", the Language Association not only held a "One Minute Short Film Production Competition" to help students discover the importance of two languages and three languages in daily life, but also invited community partners to organize a series of activities, allowing citizens from different levels of society to participate.
