How will Guangzhou and Shenzhen build a "city of the sky" as the low altitude economy takes off?

As a contracted photographer for the Sky City of Xinjiang, Li Yongchang often overlooks Shenzhen from the cloud and documents China. He has nearly 200000 fans on video websites. In Li Yongchang's eyes, the most beautiful appearance of Shenzhen is the morning with dense advection fog: as the aerial drone flew towards the top of the Ping An Building, patches of advection fog flowed through the waist of the tall building in the morning light, like a big hand transformed from clouds and mist, holding the entire building. Seven years ago, drones were still considered a novelty, but now people are accustomed to small drones and vertical takeoff and landing manned vehicles (eVTOL) flying overhead. In Shenzhen Talent Park, when tourists order drinks, they only need to choose drone delivery on the app and can enjoy fresh lemon tea in 10 minutes; Riding an unmanned aerial vehicle, one can easily travel from Shenzhen's "Bay Area Light" Ferris wheel to Zhuhai's "Sun Moon Bay" Grand Theater in just over ten minutes... Drones have penetrated into every aspect of daily life. The Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area is already a mobile bay area. The low altitude new scenes of "passenger flow" and "logistics", where people enjoy their travels and things flow smoothly, make people increasingly feel the "sci-fi temperament" exhibited by modern China, especially the two first tier cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, in the rapid development. The recently held Central Economic Work Conference emphasized the need to develop strategic emerging industries such as low altitude economy. Low altitude economy has been placed in a more prominent position in economic work, entering the central vision. Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and the entire Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area are making meticulous preparations for the takeoff of this emerging industry in terms of scientific research, policies, and industrial applications. "Sky City" was not built in a day. Currently, the low altitude economy with a wide radiation chain, long industrial chain, strong growth and driving force has become a new track for many innovative cities to compete for. However, 'Sky City' was not built in a day. This sentence comes from Zhang Yiju, Deputy Director of the Logistics and Supply Chain Research Institute of China (Shenzhen) Comprehensive Development Research Institute. During his 13 years of focusing on the low altitude economy, he witnessed the initial scale of low altitude travel, with consumer grade drones occupying half of the country, and then weaving low altitude logistics into a network. It took over a decade for the rapidly developing Shenzhen to gradually reveal the outline of this "Sky City" in the low altitude ecosystem. Today, Shenzhen has a strong industrial chain support in the field of low altitude economy. After more than 20 years of development, the local area has formed a complete industrial chain that integrates mold manufacturing, platform development, product manufacturing, etc. In 2022, the output value reached 75 billion yuan, accounting for 70% of the national total. Shenzhen enterprises, represented by DJI and others, have become successful examples of innovative development in low altitude industries in terms of technology and economy. Guangzhou also has a strong foundation in the low altitude economic field. At present, Guangzhou Development Zone has 45 intelligent low altitude industry chain enterprises including Yihang, with an annual revenue scale of about 12.5 billion yuan, covering the upstream, midstream, and downstream of the industry chain, including research and development design, raw materials, component manufacturing and integration in the upstream, important component manufacturing in the midstream such as flight control, navigation, communication, and mission payload systems, as well as downstream logistics, smart city management, and other multi scenario applications and services.
