On November 24th, at the 15th COA Academic Conference, the major project "Safety and Effectiveness Evaluation of Clinical Application of Domestic Joint Surgical Robots" was officially launched, sponsored by the Institute of Science and Technology of the National Health Commission and led by West China Hospital of Sichuan University. This project will conduct large-scale, real-world, and systematic research based on the Kunwu orthopedic surgical robot, aiming to comprehensively evaluate the safety and effectiveness of domestic joint surgical robots in clinical applications, and provide a basis for the comprehensive, scientific, and standardized application of this technology. Associate researcher Wang Ning from the Institute of Science and Technology of the National Health Commission stated that with the increasing aging population, the number of hip and knee joint replacement surgeries in China is rapidly increasing. Compared with traditional surgery, robot assisted surgery has the advantages of being more efficient, fast, and precise. She said that high-end medical equipment is one of the most important "tools" for the diagnosis and treatment of major diseases, aimed at people's lives and health. Professor Wang Kunzheng, the alternate chairman of the Orthopedics Branch of the Chinese Medical Association and the director of the Joint Surgery Center of the Medical Department of Xi'an Jiaotong University, believes that artificial intelligence has brought tremendous changes to the development of joint surgery, but this is only the first step in the development of joint surgery in the field of artificial intelligence. Wang Kunzheng emphasized that the innovation and development of domestic joint surgical robots should adopt a "medical industry enterprise" joint research and development and transformation model, and pay attention to the combination of medical technology and medical enterprise. Clinical doctors need to go from hospitals to enterprises, and enterprises need to enter factories, only in this way can we promote the development of orthopedics in China. What are the gaps between domestically produced orthopedic surgical robots and internationally advanced robots? Professor Zhou Zongke, the leading expert of the first project and the director of orthopedics and joint surgery at West China Hospital of Sichuan University, conducted an analysis from five points. If the surgical penetration rate is far from sufficient; The number of surgical robots installed in domestic hospitals is small. Currently, domestic joint surgical robots have achieved a leap from 0 to 1, but there is still a lack of effective data on how to make this technology more accurate; How to achieve speed and accuracy while ensuring patient safety; And the issue of cost, how to reasonably price and enable hospitals to purchase surgical robots, is also a problem that domestic surgical robots should consider in their development. The major project "Safety and Effectiveness Evaluation of Clinical Application of Domestic Joint Surgical Robots" has officially launched. During the roundtable discussion, Li Xiang, Deputy Chief Physician of the Orthopedics Department at the Fourth Medical Center of the People's Liberation Army General Hospital stationed at the First Medical Center, stated that as an auxiliary surgical tool, clinical doctors can observe the patient's condition from various angles through surgical robots, select the most suitable personalized surgical treatment plan for the patient, and more accurately, intelligently, and safely carry out surgery for the patient. At the same time, for knee joint replacement, there is no need to open the marrow to find the force line, the surgical trauma is smaller, and the surgical robot can achieve minimally invasive surgery. Although joint surgery robots have many advantages, Li Xiang emphasizes that they currently cannot completely replace traditional surgery. In some complex and special cases, whether it is decision-making or individualized patient plans, surgical robots can only solve 60% to 70% of the problems. We look forward to the development of domestically produced surgical robots with the support of clinical experts, research and development units, and enterprises, which can truly solve the problems
