On the road to protecting this cultural pearl, generations of scientific and technological workers continue to explore and innovate, allowing the Dunhuang civilization to continue and live forever. Recently, Associate Professor Zhou Rui from the School of Information Science and Engineering at Lanzhou University led the Deep Flying Team to the Google Developer Conference. The Deep Flying Sky Project was initiated in July 2019 by a team led by Associate Professor Yong Binbin from the School of Information Science and Engineering at Lanzhou University, with the goal of reproducing the cultural heritage of Dunhuang and exploring its artistic features. "The purpose of this project is to combine the beauty of Dunhuang traditional culture with artificial intelligence technology, and promote Dunhuang culture through new era assisted art design," said Yong Binbin. "The Deep Flying Team hopes to use technology to assist in cultural digital transformation, attract young people who were originally not interested in traditional art forms, and inspire them to learn more about China's rich cultural heritage," Zhou Rui told Science and Technology Daily reporters. Dunhuang's caisson is an art of ceiling. Caijing is a part of the Deep Flying Sky team's digital transformation of Dunhuang culture through technology. At the Google Developer Conference exhibition, the Deep Flying Team created an exhibition space using 4K projection and LED large screens. In this exhibition space, the team has pre-set four layers of patterns, three styles, and dozens of shapes. Visitors can design the caisson pattern according to their preferences. On the user end, the four layers of patterns are arranged in order from the center to the outside, and visitors can choose different patterns for stacking on each layer according to software prompts. At the same time, as the number of stacked layers increases, the transparency of each layer's pattern will also increase, and the system will automatically fill the pattern according to a symmetrical structure. After the basic completion of the patterns, visitors can choose their preferred preset style for style transfer, "dye" the patterns with their favorite colors, and ultimately generate their own unique Dunhuang patterns. In order to provide visitors with an immersive experience of Dunhuang culture, in addition to electronic screens, the Deep Flying Team has also set up an indoor display area at the exhibition site. The appearance of the exhibition area refers to the iconic nine story tower of Mogao Grottoes, which can bring visitors a visual and cultural shock. In addition, the team also played Dunhuang patterns generated by deep learning systems through "kaleidoscope animation", accompanied by Chinese classical music, to provide visitors with the best cultural experience. There are countless teams dedicated to protecting Dunhuang culture. "How to innovate protection methods", "How to attract more audiences", "How to achieve maximum protection effects" are questions that every team must answer. The answer from the Deep Flying Team to this question is: by utilizing modern technologies such as machine learning and computer vision, we hope to create a new way for people to experience and appreciate this ancient art form. Compared to other projects that combine digitalization and culture, the highlight of the Deep Flying Sky project lies in its innovative futuristic style. Zhang Yanxiang, a member of the Deep Flying Team and a master's student of Lanzhou University in 2023, introduced, "We are not simply using digital tools to replicate or display existing works of art, but rather utilizing advanced technology to achieve uniqueness."
