Recently, the Advanced Manufacturing Research Center of CCID Consulting released the "2023 Top 100 Advanced Manufacturing Cities Research Report" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report"). Ten cities in Guangdong were selected, including Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhuhai, Huizhou, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Zhaoqing, and Shantou. For the high-quality development of advanced manufacturing industry in cities, the report suggests effectively enhancing the resilience of the industrial chain and supply chain, constructing a complete industrial chain and full process application ecology, creating an advanced manufacturing industry development ecology, and advancing the layout of future industries. Taking industrial clusters as the starting point, we will provide targeted, precise, and effective supply chain extension and strengthening. Innovative vitality highlights that Guangdong's advanced manufacturing industry cluster ranks among the top in the country. As an area with strong research and development capabilities, rich innovative achievements, and high complexity in the manufacturing industry, advanced manufacturing is an important means to build a modern industrial system, cultivate new development drivers, and promote high-quality economic development. From a national perspective, nearly half of the 44 selected cities in Jiangsu, Shandong, Guangdong, and Zhejiang provinces have advanced manufacturing levels. Jiangsu and Shandong provinces have the highest number of selected top 100 cities (13), tied for first place; Guangdong (10) and Zhejiang (8) ranked second and third respectively. The five dimensions of innovation capability, integrated development, economic drive, brand quality, and green intensification are important indicators for measuring the top 100 advanced manufacturing cities. Innovation vitality is the most important feature of the selected top 100 cities. In 2023, the top 100 advanced manufacturing cities have a total of 285000 high-tech enterprises, accounting for 71% of the total number of high-tech enterprises in China; In 2022, the number of PCT international patent authorizations in the top 100 cities was 11000, accounting for 75% of the national total. Among them, there are a total of 69000 high-tech enterprises in Guangdong, ranking first in the country for 7 consecutive years. The number of research and development personnel, effective number of invention patents, and other indicators all rank first in the country. The selected top 100 cities also have their own characteristics in terms of integrated development and economic driving. The top 100 cities in Jiangsu, Shandong, Zhejiang, and Guangdong provinces have 28% of the total number of new industrial demonstration bases in China. Among the top 100 advanced manufacturing cities selected in Jiangsu, there are many pilot projects for the integration of new generation information technology and manufacturing, accounting for nearly 15% of the total ownership in the top 100 cities. In terms of the impact of advanced manufacturing clusters on regional economic development, in 2023, the national advanced manufacturing clusters in Guangdong and Jiangsu's top 100 advanced manufacturing cities accounted for 55% of the total national total, covering industries such as new generation information technology, high-end equipment, new materials, biopharmaceuticals, and high-end medical equipment. Among the 100 characteristic industrial clusters of small and medium-sized enterprises selected by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in 2023, there are 53 cities in the Top 100 Advanced Manufacturing Cities. Among them, Guangdong has a total of 7 clusters on the list, covering advanced manufacturing industries such as new energy intelligent connected vehicles and robot manufacturing. Brand quality is an important indicator for measuring the development of advanced manufacturing cities. From the list, it can be seen that the brand construction in advanced manufacturing cities is uneven. From a national perspective, nearly 90% of the top 100 manufacturing cities in East China and Central South China hold the championship in the manufacturing industry, with over 100 manufacturing champion enterprises in both Shandong and Zhejiang provinces.
