Mr. Jin Baoxiang was born in February 1914 in Linpu Town, Xiaoshan County (now Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou City), Zhejiang Province, into a wealthy family. He lost his parents at the age of 5 and grew up healthy under the careful care of his mother. In his childhood, the family hired the famous historical novelist Mr. Cai Dongfan to enlighten him, and he developed a strong interest in history. In 1934, he was admitted to the History Department of Peking University. ?? During his studies in Beijing (1934-1937), Mr. Jin Baoxiang once heard Mr. Qian Mu talk about the general history of China. "I first heard Mr. Qian Binsi talk about the general history of China, especially the pre Qin and Han dynasties, and I always felt that he seemed to have expressed the spirit of ancient Chinese history, which gave me a sense of novelty." In 1937, the outbreak of the full-scale Anti Japanese War forced Peking University to move south and form Southwest Associated University with Tsinghua University and Nankai University. Mr. Jin once listened to Mr. Chen Yinke's lecture on the history of the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, He recalled, "Mr. Chen closed his eyes and gave a lecture due to an eye disease. His speech was low, and he seemed to feel dull at first. Gradually, he had entered a good era. During my four years in university, I benefited the most from the lectures of those gentlemen who had their own unique ideas. What kept me unforgettable was their profound skills, rigorous academic research, and never blindly following others."?? In August 1941, Mr. Jin was appointed as a lecturer in the Department of History at Sichuan University; In August 1947, he was appointed as an associate professor in the Department of History at Zhejiang Yingshi University; In July 1950, he was invited by Northwest Normal University (now Northwest Normal University) to Lanzhou as an associate professor in the Department of History; In August 1951, he was appointed as a professor by the Northwest Ministry of Education.
