2023-11-21

Jiang Yanhua, known as the "Chinese Skilled Woman", is the fourth generation inheritor of monochrome Paper Cuttings, the intangible cultural heritage of Qinhuangdao, Hebei. The Paper Cuttings painting process developed by her enables Paper Cuttings to enter the picture frame from the window lattice, so that Paper Cuttings works are no longer affected by the seasons, and can be hung on the wall for appreciation. Since she lived by the Great Wall when she was young, many of her Paper Cuttings works take the Great Wall as the "protagonist". At the beginning of 2012, the painting "The Great Wall of Ten Thousand Miles" was created by landscape painter Xu Zhongxing from Shenyang Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts. Jiang Yanhua led his son and daughter-in-law to start creating it. After 10 years, this art work, which is nearly 40 meters long and 1.02 meters wide, finally came out. The picture covers a total of over 80 important enemy platforms and checkpoints from Laolongtou to Jiayuguan, with over 3800 vivid and vivid character images. Not only did it showcase the grandeur of the Great Wall, but it also delicately showcased the local customs and people's lives from Shanhaiguan to Jiayuguan Pass, telling the cultural story of the Great Wall with a pair of scissors.
