China Myocardial Infarction Treatment Day: Beware of Young Myocardial Infarction Patients: Male Experts Provide These Prevention Recommendations

2023-11-20

November 20th is China's Day for Treating Myocardial Infarction. In recent years, the incidence rate of acute myocardial infarction in China is on the rise. Autumn and winter are the high incidence periods of acute myocardial infarction. Huang Rongchong, Chief Physician of the Cardiovascular Center of Beijing Friendship Hospital Affiliated to Capital Medical University, stated in an interview with People's Daily that patients with myocardial infarction are more common in middle-aged and elderly people over 40 years old. However, in recent years, young male patients have been increasing year by year, which should be given sufficient attention. Huang Rongchong introduced that "myocardial infarction" refers to acute myocardial infarction, which is an emergency of coronary heart disease. Acute myocardial infarction is a life-threatening disease caused by acute obstruction of the coronary artery, a lack of blood supply to the myocardium, leading to necrosis and subsequent impairment of cardiac function. Usually, acute myocardial infarction is induced by various factors such as fatigue, emotional excitement, and satiety that increase heart oxygen consumption. Huang Rongchong said that coronary atherosclerosis is the most common cause of acute myocardial infarction, and people with hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, etc. are more likely to have myocardial infarction. At the same time, factors such as smoking, overweight or obesity, unreasonable diet, lack of exercise, emotional excitement, and weather changes can also lead to the occurrence of myocardial infarction. In addition, if there are individuals in the immediate family with early onset coronary heart disease, it is also necessary to actively prevent the occurrence of myocardial infarction. Huang Rongchong suggests that studies have shown that 95.6% of heart attack patients under the age of 45 are male. The top three high-risk factors for myocardial infarction in young men are smoking, hypertension, and obesity. Why is myocardial infarction targeting young men? Huang Rongchong stated that young women have the protection of estrogen, and the risk of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, and cardiovascular disease is significantly lower than that of men. So, young men should pay more attention to the "three highs" and cardiovascular health than young women. The typical symptom of a myocardial infarction attack is intense squeezing pain in the sternum or precordial area, which can radiate to the left shoulder and upper limb and last for 15 minutes or even more than half an hour. At the same time, it is often accompanied by symptoms such as sweating profusely, restlessness, vomiting, and a sense of impending death, "Huang Rongchong said. Huang Rongchong also suggests that early identification and diagnosis of myocardial infarction are important, but more importantly, preventing the occurrence of myocardial infarction. For the prevention of myocardial infarction, she suggests maintaining a healthy lifestyle, increasing exercise, eating a healthy diet, controlling weight, quitting smoking, and limiting alcohol consumption. Control controllable risk factors, such as blood pressure, blood fat, blood sugar, smoking, weight, lack of exercise, etc., to delay the progress of coronary atherosclerosis and prevent the occurrence of coronary heart disease and myocardial infarction. At the same time, people over 40 years old need to undergo relevant examinations for heart disease, and if necessary, carotid artery ultrasound, echocardiography, etc. can be performed. If any abnormalities are found in the examination results, it is necessary to seek medical attention at the outpatient department of cardiology as soon as possible.
