Millions of kilowatts! The first affordable offshore wind power project in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area is connected to the grid

2023-11-16

At 15:18 on November 15th, the 2.55 million kilowatt offshore wind power project at the Huizhou Port of China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation completed electrification at the onshore centralized control center, 220 kilovolt offshore booster station, and 66 kilovolt collection line. With the gradual rotation of the blades of 12 wind turbines on the 52 # and 54 # collection lines, the first batch of installed capacity of 123 megawatts of wind turbines was successfully integrated into the Guangdong power grid, becoming the first affordable offshore wind power project in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area for grid connected power generation. The 1 million kilowatt offshore wind power project at the Huizhou Port of China Guangdong Nuclear Corporation is the first one million kilowatt offshore wind power project in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. It is expected that after all the projects are completed and put into operation, they will provide about 3 billion kilowatt hours of clean electricity annually, which can save about 1 million tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 2.35 million tons, equivalent to about 6000 hectares of afforestation. The project is divided into two phases of construction. The Port 1 250000 kilowatt project was fully put into operation on December 28, 2021. The Port 2 750000 kilowatt project is located in the southern sea area of Port Town, Huidong County, Huizhou City, with a water depth of 31 to 40 meters and the closest distance from the land of about 22 kilometers. It is equipped with 10 8.5 megawatt wind turbines, 45 12 megawatt wind turbines, and 9 14 megawatt wind turbines, along with the construction of a 220 kV offshore booster station and the expansion of an onshore centralized control center, The construction of offshore wind turbine foundation will begin on March 15, 2023, and full capacity operation will be achieved within the year. It is worth mentioning that the project adopts various large capacity new wind turbines, including the world's largest single unit capacity typhoon resistant semi direct drive offshore wind turbine. The unit completed certification testing at the first offshore wind power testing base in Shantou, Guangdong Province in August this year; The upcoming grid connection of 14 MW wind turbines will further break the record for the maximum single unit capacity of Guangdong offshore wind power projects. After the project is connected to the grid, the cumulative installed capacity of offshore wind power in Guangdong will exceed 8 million kilowatts. It is expected that by 2025, the scale of offshore wind power production in Guangdong will reach 18 million kilowatts, "Wang Yuxue, Deputy Leader of the Grid Connection Management Group of the New Energy Service Center of China Southern Power Grid Guangdong Power Grid Company, told reporters.
