Hong Kong and Macao youth broaden their horizons and gain growth at the CIIE

2023-11-13

The Hong Kong and Macao Youth Volunteer Team of the 6th China International Import Expo, consisting of nearly 40 Hong Kong and Macao youth volunteers, successfully completed their volunteer services and visit itinerary in Shanghai on the 11th. This is the largest Hong Kong and Macao Youth Volunteer Service Import Expo team activity since the first Import Expo was held in 2018. During the 6-day conference period, they were active in the Shanghai Pavilion of the Central Plaza of the National Convention and Exhibition Center (Shanghai) and the corridors of various main exhibition areas, providing guidance, Q&A and other services. They also filmed a series of short videos for Hong Kong and Macao youth as participants for the CIIE. They have contributed approximately 1500 hours of volunteer service to this year's CIIE. This is the Shanghai Pavilion! "In just a few days, Lin Jiancheng, the" Little Leaf "(nickname of a volunteer for the CIIE) in Macau, has been familiar with the unique products in the Shanghai Pavilion of the CIIE. Many people come to inquire about whether some specialty foods can be sold. We patiently explain that as a city themed exhibition hall, items are only displayed and not sold. At the same time, visitors are also guided to the food and agricultural product exhibition area to quickly find their favorite delicacies. Mandarin Q&A is fluent, and services can also be provided in English and Guangdong dialects. Most of these "little leaves" from Hong Kong and Macao were born after 2000, Some of them come from prestigious universities in Hong Kong and Macau, while others are studying at universities in mainland China. Lin Jiancheng is a fourth year undergraduate student majoring in Humanities, Geography, and Urban Rural Planning at Beijing Normal University. Through several days of service, he not only felt that he had broadened his horizons and increased his abilities, but also began to think about how to fully utilize the CIIE platform to promote his hometown Macau to the world. He gained a deep understanding of the distribution and transactions of exhibitors at the Macao and Portuguese speaking countries' food and beverage restaurants at this year's CIIE, and believed that the delicacies in his hometown need to be seen by more people in order to expand his influence. The geography knowledge I have learned is also a tool, and in future job hunting, I can also work towards' activating 'and promoting Macau culture, "he said. Hong Kong's "Little Leaf" Wu Wenxi is mainly responsible for guiding visitors on the main passages between exhibition areas. We feel that it's not boring at all. We can meet people with different identities and needs every day, helping them solve problems, and we have a sense of gain. "He believes that" making more friends "is the biggest gain of this trip to Shanghai. Not only has the Hong Kong and Macao youth volunteer team become a unique scenery at the CIIE, but many young people from Hong Kong and Macao are also active among exhibitors and buyers. This year at the Penfolds Wine Exhibition, Xie Jianye, who constantly introduced the new collection series to merchants and consumers, is a Hong Kong youth. Coincidentally, four graduate students from the School of Horticulture at China Agricultural University also interned at the Penfolds booth. Hong Kong and mainland youth jointly assisted in expanding the influence of high-quality blending of grape varieties produced in Ningxia and Yunnan. Young purchaser Luo Zhenhao, who flew specifically from Macau, lingered in the technical equipment exhibition area and repeatedly exclaimed, "It's really eye-opening! At the CIIE, you can see and seize the future development opportunities of the country. Zhong Yongxi, General Representative of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council for Mainland China, said that by leveraging the grand stage of the CIIE, young people from Hong Kong and Macao, as well as their startups, can make friends with various figures, establish a broader and pragmatic network of relationships, lay a solid foundation for integration into mainland development, and also help everyone
