On November 1st, the 47th S ã o Paulo International Film Festival closed, and Chinese director Zhang Weimin's work "A Thousand Miles and a Thousand Paths" won the "Best International Documentary" award. The picture shows Zhang Weimin's video award speech. Lin Chunyin and Zhang Daqian are famous Chinese painters, known together with Qi Baishi as "Southern Zhang and Northern Qi". Zhang Daqian lived in Brazil for 17 years and painted masterpieces such as "Lotus", "Sichuan Chu Sheng Dao", "Splashing Colorful Green Snow Scenery", "Eight Scenes of Sichuan Zizhong", and "Homesickness Painting" here. In the film, Zhang Weimin travels to various places, interviewing Zhang Daqian's accompanying children, family, and disciples. He restores Zhang Daqian's footprints in South America through letters, poetry, and paintings: the painter moved to Argentina in 1952, and the following year decided to settle in Brazil, where he settled in the town of Mojit in the suburbs of S ã o Paulo. In 1954, Zhang Daqian moved to Brazil and spent two years building the Chinese style garden "Bade Garden". Afterwards, he went to the United States and eventually passed away in Taiwan, where the Bade Garden had already been submerged by the reservoir. Brazil and China are each on the other end of the earth, as far away as the 'ends of the earth'. Why does Zhang Daqian reside here? Is Badeyuan the Peach Blossom Land constructed by Zhang Daqian in Brazil? "Zhang Weimin attempted to find an answer in the documentary. Zhang Weimin told reporters that Zhang Daqian wore long clothes, cloth shoes, and a Dongpo hat to show off as a "magnificent Chinese painter". In terms of art, the Tang Dynasty ink splashing technique was integrated with the light and shadow elements of Western painting, creating the "splashing color" painting method, which is renowned in the East and West art circles. "Despite his distinct Chinese cultural symbols, he truly achieved the unity of heaven and man, without asking about the" West East ". She believes that it is the fusion and agitation of Eastern and Western cultures that ignites Zhang Daqian's artistic vitality. "Zhang Daqian and Bade Garden are the national confidence of Chinese art overseas." At this exhibition, Zhang Weimin returned to Mojie with the film and shared it with local citizens and Zhang Daqian's old friends. Many elderly citizens reviewed their impressions of this "Chinese Picasso" to reporters after the screening. Zhang Weimin drove specifically to the reservoir area of the former site of Badeyuan and set up a screen in the oasis on the shore to broadcast the film, attracting more than ten local filmmakers and villagers. Zhang Weimin graduated from the Photography Department of Beijing Film Academy and went to the Film Academy of Ohio University in the United States for further studies. He currently teaches at San Francisco State University and has created a series of award-winning films as a senior director, photographer, and independent filmmaker. This year's film festival has a total of 15 awards, with 362 participating films from 96 countries and regions competing. "Thousand Miles and Thousand Findings" stands out. In the video of the award winning speech, Zhang Weimin recalled returning to the Bade Garden at night. "On the bank of its ruins, I used two sticks to make a screen like an ancient scroll, which is a movie I dedicated to Zhang Daqian." She quoted Zhang Daqian's poem, "Dreams come from thousands of miles ago, and when will sailing be the year of return?" She said, "I want to say, 'Mr. Daqian, let's go home!'" (Xinhua News Agency)
