Lactose intolerance is caused by a lack of lactase in the small intestine, which prevents the complete breakdown and absorption of lactose in milk, leading to its entry into the colon. It is broken down by intestinal bacteria, producing a large amount of fatty acids, hydrogen gas, and carbon dioxide, stimulating the intestinal wall, causing an increase in intestinal osmotic pressure, increasing water content in the intestinal cavity, and increasing intestinal peristalsis, leading to symptoms such as abdominal ringing, intestinal ringing, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Can people who are lactose intolerant completely avoid drinking milk? There are significant individual differences in their tolerance to milk. Healthy adults who are lactose intolerant can also choose suitable dairy products and drink milk in moderation based on their own situation.
