The 20 Years of the "Divine Arrow" Chang 2F

2023-10-27

On October 26th, the Long March 2F (hereinafter referred to as "Chang2F") Yao 17 carrier rocket, developed by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology (affiliated with China Aerospace Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd., hereinafter referred to as "Rocket Academy"), ignited and took off. Subsequently, the Shenzhou 17 manned spacecraft carrying three astronauts was accurately sent into the predetermined orbit. From 2003 to 2023, in the next 20 years, China's manned space program has successfully completed the "three step" development strategy and entered the stage of space station application and development; In 20 years, the original intention remained unchanged, and the Chang2F rocket completed all launch missions from Shenzhou 5 to Shenzhou 17, and Tiangong 1 to Tiangong 2 with a total victory in battle; Over the past 20 years, China has bravely shouldered its mission, and the Chang2F rocket has lived up to its reputation as a "divine arrow". It has undergone numerous changes and changes, making China's manned space program more stable and far-reaching. On October 15, 2003, when the orange red tail flame of the rocket pierced the sky, the Chang2F rocket carried Shenzhou-5 and astronaut Yang Liwei into space. Although the safety was high enough, through the first manned flight, the model team still discovered the shortcomings of the rocket: Yang Liwei reported that during the rocket's flight of 120 to 140 seconds, he felt an uncomfortable vibration. This uncomfortable vibration has been confirmed as POGO (longitudinal coupling) vibration. After discovering the problem, the model team immediately analyzed the data, identified the cause, and began to improve the Chang2F rocket, achieving good results. After two launch missions of Shenzhou VI and Shenzhou VII, this vibration phenomenon completely disappeared. The rocket we were riding on was very comfortable and almost didn't feel any vibration, "said the astronaut carrying out the Shenzhou-7 launch mission. When it came to the launch mission of Shenzhou 16, astronauts even said, "Very comfortable!" "Feeling good!" "Riding on a rocket is too enjoyable!" So, from the bumps and vibrations to the comfort doubling, and then to "Riding on a rocket is too enjoyable." Nowadays, astronauts feel both comfortable and reliable when riding on the Chang2F rocket. After fully transitioning to the in orbit construction phase of the space station, China's manned space project has entered a high-density launch period. The reliability and safety of the Chang2F rocket are improved every time it appears. The unique escape system of the Chang2F rocket is the most important safety guarantee for astronauts. Although the escape system has never been activated since the first flight, the team is not careless and still conducts analysis and optimization time and time again, only to ensure that there is no missed or missed escape during protection, so that astronauts can fly with peace of mind. Starting from the Chang2F Yao12 rocket, the team added an ignition function to the escape system, changing the previous situation where escape aircraft could only escape in a fixed direction, allowing them to choose to escape in a direction perpendicular to the ground wind. Focusing on the core requirement of astronaut safety, the rocket team has also launched launch modes of "launch one engine, backup one engine" and "rolling backup", adding "dual insurance" to life safety. At the same time, the team continues to streamline and optimize the launch site process, improve testing efficiency, explore technological upgrades and improvements, and enable the Chang2F rocket to evolve towards a more reliable, safe, and intelligent direction.
