Expert: Lack of exercise is the primary cause of breast cancer in Chinese women

2023-10-19

Breast cancer is called the "pink killer". What on earth causes breast cancer? Professor Liao Ning, a member of the compilation team of breast cancer treatment norms of the National Health Commission, pointed out in an interview in Shanghai on the 18th that for Chinese women, lack of exercise is the first cause of breast cancer. She bluntly stated that due to various reasons, Chinese women lack exercise and their BMI (body mass index) exceeds the standard. Secondly, the delay in reproductive age is also a cause of the disease. Professor Liao Ning explained that when a woman is over 30 years old and gives birth to her first child, the risk of breast cancer will increase significantly. In addition, she believes that excessive use of estrogen is also a risk factor for women to suffer from breast cancer. October is breast cancer prevention month, also known as "pink ribbon month". During the lavender wreath activity, Professor Liao Ning said that breast cancer ranked first among the top ten cancers with high incidence among Chinese women. The most effective way to reduce the mortality rate of tumors is early detection and diagnosis. Professor Liao Ning believes that women should exercise for at least 30 to 50 minutes a day from a young age. She hopes that women will have their first child and breastfeed before the age of 35. She believes that when women undergo assisted reproduction, they should first check their breasts to confirm their health. In the interview, Professor Liao Ning told reporters that BRCA1 and BRCA2 are the most common genetic genes for breast cancer. BRCA2 gene is more common in Chinese patients with breast cancer; TP53 and TBL1 are also important genes inherited by Chinese women with breast cancer. She called for women to have genetic tests related to female malignant tumors once in their lives to understand their risk of breast cancer and then make targeted prevention. Today, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, endocrine therapy, etc. provide more accurate treatment methods for breast cancer patients. On the drug resistance of endocrine therapy for breast cancer, Professor Liao Ning bluntly said, "This is not inexplicably happening, and resistance is also influenced by genes. His team's research in second-generation sequencing found that the highest resistance gene in Chinese people is PIK3CA, accounting for 13%, which is different from the Western population. TP53, KARS, and TERT are also genes that lead to poor prognosis. She pointed out that for resistance, based on gene testing, relevant inhibitors and endocrine therapy are combined. For patients, I will constantly encourage them to return to normal work and family life, and should reshape their appearance. Professor Liao Ning said, "They can reuse these skincare products to continue maintaining women's beauty, which is also a spiritual cure." Reporter: Chen Jing (Xinhua News Agency)
