On the 13th, relevant experts organized by the National Center for Salt and Alkali tolerant Rice Technology Innovation conducted a public harvest and production test of salt and alkali tolerant rice in Alar City, Xinjiang. After on-site evaluation by the production testing expert group, the final theoretical yield per mu was 573.8 kilograms per mu. This is the first time that Xinjiang's salt alkali tolerant rice has achieved high yield through continuous planting on 10000 acres. The production testing field is located in the 110000 mu rice planting area of the 11th Company of the 6th Regiment in Alar City, the first division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, on the northern edge of the Taklamakan Desert. It is a newly reclaimed (abandoned for many years) saline alkali land with a continuous planting area of 10694 mu. According to measurement data from Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the soil of this plot has a salt content of over 3 ‰ and a pH of over 8.5, indicating a severe saline alkali soil. The Aksu region of Xinjiang and the first division of the Xinjiang Construction Corps have a rice area of about 400000 acres. Here, in addition to being used for food, rice also shoulders an important mission - as the preferred grain crop for saline alkali land improvement, washing salt and pressing alkali, implementing water drought (cotton, etc.) rotation rotation, improving saline alkali land and secondary saline alkali land, preventing land desertification, reducing soil salinity and reducing pests and diseases. Wang Fengbin, Director of the Northwest Center of the National Salt and Alkali tolerant Rice Technology Innovation Center and Researcher at the Grain Crop Research Institute of the Xinjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, introduced that the new rice variety Xindao 36, a salt and alkali tolerant rice variety, was used for this production test, which increased the average yield of salt and alkali tolerant rice by nearly 150 kilograms. The Northwest Center of the National Salt and Alkali tolerant Rice Technology Innovation Center was established in 2021 with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology. It has approved 12 new varieties of multi type salt and alkali tolerant rice. This production testing and promotion of high yield cultivation technology for salt and alkali tolerant rice has formed a standardized plan with salt and alkali tolerant rice varieties as the core, integrating key technical measures such as bioremediation, irrigation and salt control, soil conditioning and improvement, and cultivation regulation.
